I am one of the squirrel overs. I have observed them enough that I now notice their ears as a way of recognizing them. Some have notched airs, born that way. I probab;y could list some of the various varieties that reside around my yard. There are 2 fairly significant nests on each side of the yard, high in a tree. I open my back door and click my tongue and I can watch a little head pop up out of the nest and then see the squirrel scamper down to come get a treat. Currently I have 7 regulars. I get a little sad when a squirrel that I recognize stops coming around, fearing the worst - knowing either a car or fox has likely ended its days. There have not been any known cases of rabies in the little guys in the history of my city:) I also enjoy their parcour moves off the trees.
Thanks for sharing the blog - I enjoyed it.

Squirrels don't carry rabies. (My MIL was bitten while hand feeding one of them and we learned that fact then!)
