I'm in the market for a new car. I hate the back and forth haggling with the car sales people. Is using the AAA, Costco, or other buying service any better?

We got a good deal through USAA's car buying service. Are you a member? In general, I would say it depends on how good of a negotiator you are, and how popular and available the vehicle you want to buy is. We suck, and our vehicle sells really well so USAA was the way to go for us.

We bought one of our Lexus cars through Costco. No hassle fleet rate. Great price. Smooth transaction. Great customer service from the dealer. We searched through the Costco website and they put us in touch with the dealer who had the car we were looking for.

We bought with the Costco discount but didn't go through costco - if that makes sense. We got the deal that they were advertising plus a costco gift card. The dealership wasn't willing to negotiate any additional discount because they said we were already getting a really good deal.

I've used AAA twice for buying cars. It was so easy! I was curious to see if the price was really all that much better, so I went to my neighborhood Subaru dealer before driving out to see them at the AAA approved location. The guy at my local dealership said there was no way he could match that same price. It made me feel much better about driving out to the other dealership. They even gave me more for my trade in than my dealership offered.

I found the best deal on my car using Capital One Auto Navigator. USAA seems to have pretty good deals with their program also.

I bought my car at a dealer that posts their "guaranteed" low price, no negotiations. They are also a Costco authorized dealer. They compared their price, Ford's Xplan pricing, and Costco. Costco was the best deal.

Last fall I contacted Costco. I was paying cash for a new Subaru. They put me in touch with the local dealer. He contacted me, only gave 2 Subaru's to choose from with only 500$ off. They said that there are many rules on cars they can sell. Neither of 2 whole choices worked for me so I moved on. Found a better deal at Carmax & got the Subaru I wanted. I wasn't impressed with the Costco program or the local Subaru dealer.

I just told the dealer that I was going to check with Costco before I finalized anything. You have to ask for it. I $1500 off the lowest price they came back with and I got the all weather car mats ($500) free. I will not try to negotiate on my own again.

I just bought a car from carmax two hours ago. The easiest car purchase I have ever made and the price checked out as very competitive.
