I took an aleve this morning and went back to bed. Probably a big mistake-now it feels like it's still stuck in my throat. I don't think it is-I've eaten and drunk water and tea since then-but it must have irritated my throat or something. When I ate, it felt like everything was stuck for a second, and then slowly and reluctantly went down. Anyone had this happen? I've read that it is an issue for some with Aleve, for whatever reason. Now it feels like something's in there plus feels like heartburn. I took a claritin (unrelated-I take them daily for environmental allergies-but I figured it might relieve any swelling in there). I've read of people feeling it for a week or more. I think it's unrelated but dd is throwing up today-possibly a stomach bug. They've been going around. I'm spraying bleach water on everything but these things usually make their way through the whole family.

You could have slightly burned the lining of your esophagus from the pill melting while in the throat. You should always wash a pill down with liquid or food. Although I admit, I take my time-released morphine without either many times. I was in line at a fast food place getting lunch years ago and it was time for my afternoon morphine. I was a bit paranoid about watching the clock in those days, and since it looked like it would be a good 15 minutes or more before I placed my order and received my food, I took the pill while in line. The woman in front of me saw me do it and read me the riot act. She said she was a nurse and to never ever do that. I explained that it was a time-released pill, so it would not be dissolving in my throat. It was also very small and almost waxy feeling so I figured it would slide down fairly quickly and easily. She wouldn't let it go. She made me promise to never do that again. I lied. I still do that on occasion, but only with those pills. For anything that will dissolve, I use water.

Sounds like a "burn" in your esophagus. It's burning because it's raw, and it feels like something is there because it's inflamed. Just my best guess. I would avoid spicy, acidic, or alcohol and take some antacids like zantac to minimize acid, and lay low food-wise for a couple days whike it heals.

I have had that feeling after taking a tablet. Sometimes it lasts all day.
On a side note, do you realize bleach water is only effective for 24 hrs after mixing the 2 together, don't you?

That is how acid reflux feels to me. Exactly. Have you tried taking Tums or another acid absorber? I would try that, and if it helps, either keep taking them or switch to an acid reducer like Nexxeum or Prilosec for a few days/a week.

Thanks everyone. It's a lot better now. I took a pepcid earlier and I think it helped a lot. I do know about the bleach. I have a small sprayer that I use for it and I marked a line for bleach and a line for water so I can get a 1:10 ratio without measuring. If I need to use it I mix it up fresh every day when I get up. I really only use it when someone is sick but sometimes I mix up a bottle for general cleaning.
My daughter seems to be much better. She hasn't barfed again and she had some plain rice and sprite and is now watching Netflix. Something funny, by the sound of it.
