Because the Peas know everything -
Why do some people keep a piece of fabric (what I saw was a red bandana, cut in half) with the weed 'kit' (rolling papers, lighter, etc).
I have never smoked weed and am curious what the fabric is for. I have seen it two times now, so I don't think its a personal preference, but I cannot figure out what its for).

I have no idea. My sister has smoked for many years and I've never seen her use any fabric for anything. Possibly they put it down like a placemat to catch any bits that don't make it into the roll?

BUT I've seen it twice now - in two people's kit (is that what you call it??) so it must be something. I guess I could ask them next time we see them but that's kinda awkward. Maybe its nothing? But I think its *something*. SaveSave

A way to catch bits and pieces.

I have watched my sister roll her joints many times and she typically just brushes the "crumbs" onto the floor. It would make sense to me that if you were paying for it, you would want to make sure you didn't waste any, plus, most people are neater than my sister is. Who wants pot crumbles on their floor? She grows her own, so I guess she isn't worried about waste? She taught me to roll a few as well and it isn't as easy as it looks at first. I got quite good at it and she had me roll the rest of what she had in her container. Either mine were very good or she was just being lazy.
I have only tried pot once. I couldn't smoke it, and didn't really want to since I have asthma and enough issues with my lungs as it is. She made me brownies and I ate it instead. Much easier. But I have an odd reaction to it. It felt like the surface of my skin was cold and tingly. She said it was a parasympathetic nerve reaction. It was weird and awful. I know there are many strains of pot, and I may end up having to switch from my prescribed pain medication to pot if my insurance gets much higher. The price of my medication is insane, so I have to buy prescription coverage. Just the price of my main time-released pain pill was over $2,000 at my pharmacy during the one month that I wasn't covered due to a mess up of my ex employer's bookeeping.
I couldn't possibly afford that, especially since I still needed to buy another 6 prescriptions (asthma, anxiety, back up pain, etc.). I called around and finally found that Walmart would order it in for me for $400. She apologized for the price until I told her what my normal pharmacy was going to charge me. If it gets to where I can't afford prescription coverage, I will not be able to pay for them without it and will have to switch to something else. That something else probably being pot. That is assuming I can find a strain that handles my pain enough and doesn't make me really sleepy or have that skin reaction again. My doctor did tell me at my last visit that I cannot mix my current meds with pot, so I may be in for some major pain if I ever come off the time-released and start testing pot strains.

I should know this since I’m in Colorado lol...well you got the lingo right, it’s weed not pot, I know that. I wonder if the fabric is used like those sushi mats that are used to roll sushi? To make a neater, tighter cigarette? Now I’m curious too.

it seems to be a 'thing' to keep all your drug para in a 'kit'
i've seen it too - real life and on shows like intervention
backpacks too - to keep all their 'stuff' together
the drug world - even just weed - is interesting to say the least

Did the "kits" have a pipe/bowl? Maybe the cloth was to clean it if they did. I haven't smoked weed in over 20 years, and even living in Colorado now, I don't know anything about the current stuff. I've never been in a dispensary. They're not allowed in my county, so I don't see any around on a daily basis, and have no reason to seek one out when I'm in Denver or somewhere that does have them.

I will start referring to it as weed from now on. My doctor even used the term pot as well as marijuana at my last appointment when he told me not to use it while I was on my current pain medication. I didn't even ask him if I could, but I guess now that it is legal here for everyone, he needs to warn his patients not to mix it with their prescribed medication. SaveSave

It is probably used as a mat to catch your crumbs. I don’t roll joints or smoke; I use a vaporizer that vapes flower so I use a piece of foil to catch my second grind and funnel it into the oven of my vape. The piece of foil lives in a zip bag with the rest of my kit:
Vape, extra screens, three piece grinder, finishing grinder, cleaning kit for the vape, and whatever strains I’m using at the time.

Well for various reasons I am pretty well versed in the art of people smoking weed and I have never noticed anyone with that particular piece of equipment. I would say depending on what they are using to smoke with depends on their "kit" (although truthfully I have never known anyone to have an actual kit). They have parts and pieces but no kit. Anyway I was thinking to wipe the resin when you clean your one hitter/pipe with a toothpick or skewer, but you wouldn't need that for rolling joints. But you definitely would use something you can throw away becasue of the stench. I guess I would agree with those saying maybe to use as a place mat type thing. You have me curious...I also think you should ask if the opportunity arises. Or hopefully another pea will be able to solve the mystery.

Not that I saw. What I saw was a little zipper bag (kinda like what a diabetic would have their needles and insulin in). In it there were rolling papers, a lighter, and this half bandana. I didn't think anything of the bandana the first time I saw it, but then I saw another person's kit (which was in a similar zipper bag) and there was the bandana again. SaveSave
