So apparently I wasn't paying attention and ironed something on a high heat I shouldn't have and now the bottom of my iron has burnt stuff all over the bottom.

I have googled and noticed that there are several methods to clean it up, but wondered if any one had any tried and true methods? I iron everything all the time and but don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to.

So cleaning divas, help an absentminded ironing sister out?

At one of the big box retailers who sells irons/ironing boards, they will sell a tube of iron plate cleaner in that aisle; sometimes they put it with the laundry soaps but usually it is in the aisle with the irons.. Looks like a travel tube of toothpaste. It will take off just about everything you can burn to the bottom of your iron. You'll need a couple of wash cloths or a towel you don't mind junking up (I use my oldest stained up kitchen ones)

I am also burning the adhesives on iron on interfacing and stabilizers. Sear by this stuff!

I tried salt, it was ok but the paste was WAYYYYY better! Use an old washcloth or rag.
