So apparently I wasn't paying attention and ironed something on a high heat I shouldn't have and now the bottom of my iron has burnt stuff all over the bottom.
I have googled and noticed that there are several methods to clean it up, but wondered if any one had any tried and true methods? I iron everything all the time and but don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to.
So cleaning divas, help an absentminded ironing sister out?

I've had the best luck running it over and over brown paper or paper towels to get most of the burnt stuff off, then using a plate cleaner like voltagain mentions above to get off the residual stuff.

I buy Iron Off cleaner at Joanns, or other sewing stores, or Amazon, and it does the trick. I am also burning the adhesives on iron on interfacing and stabilizers. Sear by this stuff!

Another Iron Off user. I tried salt, it was ok but the paste was WAYYYYY better! Use an old washcloth or rag.
