I'm sure this has been posted before, but I'm posting, again. 🙂
We are in need of a new washer and dryer. Our budget is around $1,500. NO frontload washers, and I prefer silver, but that's optional.
Thanks! 😁

Speed Queen AWN432S. This is a commercial washing machine. It is built like a tank and has been problem free for me, and has great reviews online.
I had bought a HE LG machine to replace my old washer. I hate it. It takes for-fricken-ever to do a load of wash - and then it isn't clean. I am a farmer, and our laundry is dirty. I have washed jeans, only to pull them out to find actual dirt still on them. If I do towels in it - and one towel is a different size - the load goes out of balance.
DH heard me complain about it so much - he ordered the Speed Queen for me. NIGHT and DAY .. That Speed Queen can wash a load in a short time and it comes out clean. I can actually do a load with hot water (no matter what I do with the HE, it never lets it fill with truly hot water). I can soak a load as long as a want.
The Speed Queen doesn't play a fancy song at the end - but it works SO darn good! I can't recommend it enough. For all the appliances I have bought in the last 5 or 10 years that I am never really happy with - this one is a winner!

We just had to buy new ones with this last move and I got $350 a piece Maytags no bells and whistles just a knob and a few buttons. I have had expensive and middle of the road and after a few years they all have issues so I figures the less buttons the less things that can go wrong. We shall see. Good luck,I hate appliance shopping because it all just seems like they all break after the warranty expires.

Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and the Whirlpool 7.4-cu ft Gas Dryer (White) Item # 786463 Model # WGD75HEFW
Both have almost 5 stars. Love love love the washer. I do know the washer comes in that dark silver color. Not sure on the dryer.
Mine are both white.
I can do the kids sheet sets, blankets, and comforters together. Large washer.
I even washed my handmade flannel quilt with no issues.
Both are 3 years old and still like new, going strong.
ETA: I paid a little under $1500 both both with delivery (free since we are close to Lowe's, set up, and take away of old units)

Exactly what I was going to say. We are actually replacing slightly older versions of the same ones after they were damaged in a flood. The new version of the dryer even has a steam function. Love that the washer has a low profile agitator so you can wash huge comforters etc.

I bought an LG set about 3 years ago in that price range and have been very happy with them. The washer is top loading, has the low agitator and uses steam automatically on certain settings. The dryer also has the steam feature which I use frequently.

Just to add...when iowgirl says it is a commercial machine and is built like a tank.....it does not look commercial, and does not look like a tank, so don't let that scare you. It looks like a nice consumer product. I love my washer and dryer and have no regrets whatsoever!!

Just replaced my Fisher & Paykel with another set of F&P. This is our third washer, second dryer in 21 years for a family of 7 plus two dogs. We’ve slowed down but during most of that time we were doing 20+ loads per week. We definitely got our money’s worth.
We looked at many brands and intended to go with Speed Queen. The owner of the appliance store we bought from said his wife made him replace her new SQ with another set of F&P and said she’d had the same experience we had.

DH did call me and ask if I wanted a coin slot or not.. evidently he could have ordered it with a coin slot. I declined...

I will likely replace my W/D this year with Speed Queen. For budgeting purposes, what should I plan for a top load washer and dryer, no fancy bells and whistles needed?

Speed queen here too. We paid around $700 for our washer and it's the mid version (extra rinse but no fabric selector, I believe).

Do not buy the top of the line Maytag!! We had a previous version of this washer which worked well, but the one we bought a couple of years ago is terrible! It will only fill up with about 4 inches of water for most loads and never more than 1/3 of the way no matter how big the load is! The clothes get ruined because they rub against each other and the short agitator instead of swishing around. I can only use the bedding setting and have to pour water onto the dry clothes before starting it so it will trick it into thinking it is a bigger load by weight and even then it won't fill up enough for a large comforter which is why I bought the thing! It also doesn't have a spin only cycle, just rinse and spin. If we have wet dog towels or have to sop up a big spill/leak I like to spin them out before washing but you can't with this washer. Speed Queen will also be my next washer.
I'm happy with the LG dryer we bought 4 years ago. It will do steam by a refillable thing on top, but it doesn't need to be attached to your home's water.

Following, as I suspect mine to both give out any day now. They are 21 years old (Kitchen Aid washer, Whirlpool dryer) and still work great, but their days must be numbered! 😂
Good luck! Lisa B.

I have a Samsung drier and I love it a lot! It has the steam feature and I do use it. It’s very easy to use. I would buy it again. We have Kenmore washing machine and it has a lot of great features on it basic as it is. It is an old, white, top-loader with enough good settings to make me happy.
I had a Panasonic/National one in Japan and it was spectacular! That thing was serious about laundry!!! The drier was on to of the washer and I loved it, too. The washer had a bazillion settings and so many options. Not sure if Panasonic makes one for export.

Aaaaaand less than 24 hours after I posted this... I took 2 loads of soaking wet laundry to my mother-in-law’s to use her dryer! Looks like I’ll be shopping for a new one this weekend. And DH said replace them both since the washer can’t be far behind... at least I’ve got Presidents’ Day sales going for me, right? 😂 Lisa B.

Oooh, maybe mine will go out on me today...mine are nearly 20 years old and they must be on borrowed time by now, right??! This set had been amazing, needing only 1 simple repair several years ago (Whirlpool). I go back and forth between wanting them to die, and wanting to squeeze another year or two out of them!

This set had been amazing, needing only 1 simple repair several years ago (Whirlpool). I go back and forth between wanting them to die, and wanting to squeeze another year or two out of them! If I were you, I would keep the washer as long as you can. They do not make them like they used to with the option for setting the water level yourself and the new ones do not fill up very far. It's supposed to save water, but since they don't rinse well you have to run an extra rinse which defeats the water saving and takes more time. The new washers take over an hour to run 1 load. They are not better than the older ones!

I ended up getting a Speed Queen, both dryer and washer (DH said get both since the washer can’t be too far behind at 21 years old!). They’re being delivered Thursday! They are last year’s models, I got the last boxed washer and am getting the floor model dryer (with $150 off!). It is the last Speed Queen top loading washer model WITHOUT the stupid locking lid, and it’s not an HE washer so actually uses water to wash your clothes (and you can add water to the top if you want). No fancy computer gadgets or apps, just a good solid washer, very similar to what I have. I likely won’t get 21 years out of them, but all stainless steel tubs/drums and metal parts, so it’s my best shot, lol. Good luck to all who are making a decision!
