I'm noticing that many of the other brands are a fair amount cheaper than Instant Pot. Are you paying for the brand name of Instant Pot? Or is it really worth that much more to get the Instant Pot?

My understanding is that it us part name and part how many functions it has. A little like the difference between a crock pot with bells and whistles and a slow cooker

An instant pot is an electric pressure cooker with slow cooker functions too. My motto is you get what you pay for. I think they are worth the price.

The stainless pot is really nice to have, but the nonstick pot I have on my other brand pressure cooker is just fine, too. If you want to make yoghurt get the IP. Otherwise, get what you want to afford. I don’t use all the different functions and only use the manual pressure cooker (by entering the time I want to set it for, instead of pre-programmed chicken button for example) so it doesn’t matter(to me) if it has all the buttons.

I bought my pressure cooker from QVC when it was the TSV about 2.5 years ago. Mine can do everything an Instant Pot can do except make yogurt. It was on sale for about $80 when I got it. I have a lot of friends and relatives who have various brands of pressure cookers and they all like the one they have. Even though I have all sorts of function buttons the one I use the most is the manual time set. If mine ever quits working, I'll replace it right away. I would get an Instant Pot if I could take advantage of an Amazon Prime deal or something like that, but I'd be perfectly happy to get a Cuisenart brand or something on that order.

Really not much of a difference. I teach an electric pressure cooker class at some of the churches in the area. The girl I teach with has the pressure cooker from Costco. I will say that the biggest difference between what she has and the two pressure cookers I have (instant pot, cuisinart) is that hers does NOT have a manual button so she can't specifically tell the machine how many minutes to come to pressure. So if she is making something that doesn't have a button she has to get creative and try to figure out what button has a similar cooking time to what she is trying to pressure. I would look at reviews, make sure that the cooker has a manual button, the other consideration is if you want stainless steel or non stick.

For me the main difference was that I'd never heard of an electric pressure cooker before I started hearing about the Instant Pot, so when elaine twisted my arm and forced me to buy one  that's what I bought. But now that I have it of course I'm happy with it. Some of the differences, going by what I read on FB, are: stainless steel inner pot, "manual" button (i.e., you can set your own time rather than try to figure which of the presets will be best), and the customer service from the company. I've never needed their customer service but I see a lot of people on FB saying that it's excellent. Also, just in terms of numbers it's nice to have a brand that a lot of other people have. That way when you have a problem or a question there's always someone who knows exactly what to do. "Push the 'porridge' button, then 'adjust' and add time" or whatever (I just made that up, but you get the idea). This is why I bought my son not only an IP but also the exact same model that I have. Easier to talk about it and give instructions.

I think the advantage the IP has is so many recipes are written for it and you can follow them without a lot of thought. I had an older EPC and even though it was very similar to the IP, sometimes it would be just enough different to cause a recipe to come out a bit different. I used it until something broke on it, but if I’d had an IP as an option before purchasing it, I would have chosen the IP.
