My sister is looking at a cruise -- and has found the best price on cruise.com -- a discounter. We checked with a cruise only agent who suggests that "people" find hidden fees, etc. with "discounters" and have had bad experiences. There are on-line reviews for cruise.com -- that do not appear to be great
So - has anyone used a cruise price discounter -- and would you share your experience, please.

Well -- since this is a pretty well traveled group -- it appears that no one has used a discounter!
As it turns out -- our travel agent was able to get us "on board credit" for the price differential. So we are well pleased with the service and will use her again!

Good morning, Sorry I just saw this...we have used cruises only (a discounter) for several cruises and have never had an issue...and it was cheaper than if we booked the same cruise directly with the cruiseline.

I have never done a cruise at all, but there was recently a conversation about it on one of my Facebook travel pages about it and I don't remember anyone having a problem. It probably depends on who you go through.
I know a lot of people get aurprised with fees/tips etc in general with cruises. Perhaps they didn't know this happens with full price cruises as well?

I use a reputable agency that offers onboard amenities vs a discount. This way i have someone to go to if something comes up. I have a person to speak with if I have questions. Worth it to me on my 17 cruises. Enjoy your trip!

We always book directly with the cruise line too - if you are watching you can get plenty of on board goodies. We're getting free grats, free wifi and drink packages. And because we booked this cruise on a previous cruise we have on board credit as well.

We use a professional travel agent. In fact we have been using the same one since the early 90's. It is hassle free for me and she always double checks prices FOR us and if the price goes down, which on our Christmas cruise it did and we received an additional 380.00 off PER cabin (we booked 2)I don't have to do anything she handles it all for us.
Worth it for us to use the professional.

For most of my cruises I use CruiseCompete.com and let them bid. Before I pick one, I check reviews. As a result of that, I now use Crown Cruises for most of mine. You still get everything the same as the cruise line, but they often throw in some on board credit, a free excursion, etc.

Now I always book with the cruise line. I like to have the ability to call the line with a question, or make changes online myself. If you book with a TA you can't. I had an issue once upon a time when we booked one with a friend's TA, I called and emailed her several times with a request and never got a response in time. I'll keep the control now.
