i have never used a 9x12 album, but i feel like it seems like the right size for me. however, i'd love to hear any and all feedback on this before i make the switch. first and foremost - is SC the only place to buy them? what is the quality of theirs? if you've used this size, what are your thoughts - pros and cons? (i would love to see AE carry this size, katiejaeger.) i guess i'm interested in ALL feedback about the 9x12 .

I love 9x12. I always used 8.5x11 because 12x12 always felt too large and difficult to store. Once 9x12 came out, I ran with it and have never looked back. I bought a ton of 7 paper albums on clearance. I don't want to support Studio Calico but they are the only game in town right now for this size. Hopefully that changes one day SOON.

I also love 9x12. Wish a few more people would carry them but I stocked up on albums and page protectors from SC a while ago so have plenty. For me it’s the perfect size - 12x12 is way too big to fill and store and 6x12 is good for DD but not for regular use.

I used a 9X12 and I liked it. I used it for smaller projects. I prefer the 12X12 because it better allows bigger presentations, such as kaleidoscopes, explosion pages, and panoramas.

I love them. I hate 12x12 because of the squareness of them, I find rectangles easier to scrap on. I typically do 8.5 x 11, but it is amazing how much more space you have in a 9x12 plus it results in less cutting. I like the SC albums, they are a good quality, but I hate that they are the only game in town. If AE made them it wouldn’t really help because she is part of SC and her stuff never goes on sale. I stock up when they are on sale, but always make sure I get enough pp to go in each album just in case SC just drops dead one day. I get 30 page protectors for each album in addition to what they come with. I can’t think of any cons other then SC being the only place to get them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on who we can start campaigning to so someone else might make them?

how many pages typically fit in the SC 9x12? i do moderately flat scrapping - not too bulky. Skellinton I understand what you're saying about AE; my thing is that she's the person who gets most of my online business and somehow manages to provide better CS, even under the inked brand. but i'd love to see AC/WRMK or any good quality company start making these ongoing! eta: how often do SC page protectors go on sale? i've never noticed because i've never bought PP from them.

They don’t hardly ever, I just buy when the albums go half off and pretend it balanaces out or buy when they have a 20% off code that works.

For me, 9x12 isn’t worth the hassle. As an international, the shipping on the albums is just ridiculous.
I did 9x12 last year for my vacation album. I bought the page protectors from SC and managed to find a 9x12 album second hand on eBay.
I do not like the quality of the 9x12 page protectors. They feel cheap and stickier than the BH page protectors.
The 9x12 albums fit in my kallax unit just like the 12x12 so for me, losing two inches just isn’t worth the hassle. I do like the format but I hate the quality from SC.
I would consider the size again if more options appeared in the market. But I personally cannot recommend the 9x12 offering from SC.

I like the page protectors for inserts, but they need a 3 3x4 and 3 4x6 option. I find the options being mostly 3x4 vertical slots in the most popular designs to be limiting. I planned to use a 9x12 album for our trip to Disney a few years ago but there weren't page protectors that worked for me. For PL, I tend to take pictures on my phone vertical to take up less space, but my husband is the opposite and takes mostly landscape pictures (which means there was a heavy amount of landscape photos from our trip to Disney because I had the baby and he had the camera much of the time).
I have 3 of the pencil 3 ring albums that I'm going to use specifically for school stuff of my kids. It will mostly be letter page protectors with awards and report cards, but I can add in a 9x12 layout here and there if I so choose. I think they are great for things like that because that ring type works great for traditional office supply store page protectors and is much better quality than your run of the mill office or school binder.

For the record I only buy the plain pp, no pockets for me and I think the quality is great. They are thick and not sticky at all, I wouldn’t buy them if I thought they weren’t good quality.

Of course! We all have different opinions and experiences with these things. I just find that I cannot get my photos and cards in and out of pockets easily. The photos seem to stick to the pp and it’s not because they’re too wide - the pp itself seems to not have much ‘glide’. I find it such a chore working with the page protectors because of it.

I've used them for the last two years for December Daily. I tried to do PL one year and lasted less than 2 months, but I still had a lot of PP and some albums (plus I got at least one, if not two in the original SC warehouse box sale). I have wanted to use them for vacations, but I take too many photos so that would never work. They worked well for me for DD--I can't do a lot of the cutesty/funky/handmade pages like Ali does, but I'm not that innovative anyway! I take a lot of pictures while opening presents so I can't fit most of those in a 6x8 album, but can in the 9x12.
My biggest complaint is the lack of 6x4 options beyond the one configuration they offer--I also wish they offered PP with 3 of that size.
I do use the PP in my 12x12 albums (after punching a hole in the center). They work great for my trip albums because they help mix things up and I can tell a shorter story without using a lot of filler cards (I tend to do my vacation albums with about 95% pocket pages...because I take a lot of pictures!)

I am right there with QueSeraSera . I bought four 9x12 SevenPaper albums when they were on ScrapbookSteals and a bunch of those specific page protectors. What I really like about these 3 ring albums is that I can use standard 12x12 page protectors from PL, WRMK, AC, etc. For example, I bought a big box of Design A on clearance so I can chop off 1 row and I've got a perfect 9x12 with 2 4x6 pockets. I've also fused the ends of Design C to get 3 4x6 and 3 3x4 cards on one page. 9x12 is really the sweet spot size for me. I can put a year of memories in one album. 6x8 is great for mini albums and December Daily. 12x12 seems too big for my day-to-day memory keeping. if by 2020 I can't find an alternate 3 ring 9x12 album, I'll chop up the cover of an old American Crafts Modern album I have. I'm not buying a 4 ring 9x12 album that will require punching more holes in the protectors.

I love 9x12. My issue is that the two I have are from seven paper and they are discontinued. What I like about them is they have 3 holes in the same place as a 12x12. So it is easy to take a 12x12 protector and cut off 3" (I use my fuse tool too). Studio Calico put 4 rings in their 9x12. So you either have to buy their protectors or punch new holes. I do a monthly pocket spread in my 9x12 and if I have a trip or special event I put a 6x12 insert in there (also punched with 3 holes).
Bottom line someone besides Studio Calico needs to make some 9x12 albums and protectors with 3 rings!!!

I asked about 9x12 awhile ago, and a few RefuPeas suggested that I look into sheet music page protectors (and binders).
I scrap 12x12, but I like to use the 9x12s for overflow when I have too many photos for a 2 page layout. I'm using 9x12 pocket pages (PL) for now, but I still want to pick up some sheet music page protectors sometime soon.

I love 9x12. I have been using them for a couple of years now. I stocked up at various places with the seven sc ones. I am running out though and I am not sure what I am going to do. As the previous poster said I love using the 3 hole 12x12 pages and cutting them down if I want. The fuse tool is perfect for this. This is one of the reasons I don’t want to buy the new sc ones, they knew what they were doing when they went to 4 holes. They want people to only get their expensive page protectors and that really bothers me. I had started a conversation about this with them along time ago and their response was bullshit and never really addressed the issue. I can’t see doing 12x12 so at some point soon I’ll have to take the plunge and give in.

i know i'll never do 12x12 again; it has never worked for me other than when i did traditional scrap layouts; and even then - it was getting to be too much. i love 6x8 for DD and theme albums, but really, really want more 9x12 options. thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

I emailed WRMK and actually got a nice response in just about an hour. They said they are always looking for new products their customers are interested in. Maybe pea power can make them see the light? It doesn’t hurt to try! I just told them that it was a great size that was more manageable then 12x12 and I regularly bought them from SC, but would like more options and to be able to buy them in person from a big box store or my local craft stores that already carry other WRMK products.

Great thread. I need to make a baby album and can't decide on a size. 6x8 seems to small. 12x12 is too big.

Another person here who doesn't understand why 9x12 hasn't taken off. It works so much better than 8.5x11" because standard sized photos are 4x6" and most of us would rather use 4x6, 3x4, or 3x3 or 4x4 elements than having to deal with trying to divide stupid numbers like 8.5" and 11" - I mean, it's so obvious! Even if a lot of supplies come in 12x12, it's easy enough to cut a 3" wide strip off the side and use that for something else. I know some people make it work with baseball card sleeves and other tortured configurations in standard letter size binders but it didn't work well for me.
I agree that 6x8 can be a little small for a big project like PL, and I've always found 12" binders to be ridiculously huge. 9x12 is a perfect compromise.
I ended up not using 9x12" (a few years ago when I was doing PL) simply because I refused to be chained to SC and their proprietary ring set up because I know they're unreliable about keeping page protectors in stock and sticking to one format. I would have been all over 9x12" albums if they'd had standard ring alignment and could be found on amazon and scrapbook.com.

Another 9x12 album user here! To me, it's the ideal size, especially for pocket pages. Nice proportion, not too big, not too small, divides well into photo component sizes.
That's a great idea to appeal to WRMK. I hope our Pea power works!

Would it be worth putting together an online petition that we can send to manufacturers so they can see in one consise place how many people want 9x12 albums?

I tried used my WRMK planner punch to add holes to some PL protectors and it worked great. I'm thinking I can use the PL protectors that are 6 horizontal 4x6 photos and just cut off 3" with my Fuse to get a layout I like. SaveSave
