I bought some today for tomorrow--for the first time--cold water ones.
I've seen you can bake, broil, boil, steam them.
I'd like to do it without butter so I'm thinking boiling?
Do you cut the back first to make it easier?
Any good and easy options?
Thanks!
ETA--OMG-I set them on a plate on the counter to thaw and my cat grabbed one and tried to run away with it!

Cut back after boiling. Make sure to look up a good recipe because you can turn succulent, tender lobster into to rubber grossness if you overcook even a minute too long. How Long to Cook Lobster Tails on the Stove top: Simmer lobster tails, uncovered, for 8 to 12 minutes or until shells turn bright red and the meat is tender when poked with a fork. For larger or smaller tails, adjust the cooking time as needed. Drain in a colander. or this one: www.lobstergram.com/cooking-lobster-tails

We prefer grilled with butter and garlic but doesn’t sound like your style. We also broil them in a similar style.
Either way, we split in half and pour butter over them.
When we used to boil them, we would cut or split the top to easily pull out. Makes for pretty presentation to.
Enjoy!

Grill them and really - have butter. It really does bring out the flavor of the lobster.

I grilled ours on Saturday night and we had 10 of them between the 3 of us. The one I had last night (Monday) tasted like an ash tray. It wasn't blackened but it had picked up a lot of smokey flavour from the BBQ and it tasted like cigarette ash would. It wasn't as good as the first night I made them. I don't quite understand that as it wasn't blackened but it sure tasted smokey.
I have boiled them in the past, too, and they turned out great. We got these gigantic ones from the fish store. Ex-dh took photos because the tails were so big.
The ones I had the other night and leftover last night were much smaller. They were still very good the first night. I paid $10 for 2 tails (it was a buy one get one free deal which is a good deal at my grocery store).

^^^ cindyupnorth is right. Lots of butter. Boiling from frozen works just fine. I thawed mine because I bought them earlier in the day. Totally not necessary.

I cut the shell and pull it to the sides. Brush with a small amount of butter and a small amount of salt, pepper, and paprika. Broil until opaque and serve with melted butter for dipping.

I was going to say go to Maine, find lobster shack of choice, order whole lobster, enjoy at picnic table overlooking water. Or go down to the dock and purchase live lobster pulled from water that day, go home and cook. I've never cooked lobster from frozen. We prefer lobster steamed or grilled rather than boiled. Boiling changes the texture in a way I find not quite as pleasant.

I picked up 2 at Whole Foods on Saturday and cooked them in my Instant Pot. I put 1 cup of water in the pot, Old Bay seasoning. Set the pressure to Manual for 3 minutes. Oh, I cut the hard bottom part before cooking. Cooked them shell side down on a trivet. Took them out and popped them out of the shell so easy. AND served them with clarified butter and steaks.
I can't even think of lobster without butter.

Substitute garlic for the paprika and this is how I usually cook lobster in the winter. In the summer I'll do them on the grill. I was surprised that I couldn't find lobster on sale around here this week. I might have some very disappointed family members tomorrow night.

Naughty kitty! After it's cooked, let kitty try a little tiny piece. My cat loves lobster!
I cook tails in the oven at 400 degrees. I split the shell with a kitchen scissors and pull it up and lay it on the shell(for presentation purposes). A 4-6 oz. tail takes 8-10 minutes in my oven.

I went over to Bed Bath and Beyond and got poultry shears. Cut the shell (easy) and popped the meat out and put it on top.
Yum! Broiled them for about six minutes, slightly underdone, will increase it by a minute next time.
I did brush a small amount of butter on them, then Old Bay before broiling.
They came out so sweet. It was the first time I made them so it went well!
My cat kept trying to help herself--it's amazing what a tiny spritz of water does to discourage a cat!
