I don't know which one to send. We have some very pretty, cheerful looking cards that I would love to get. We could also go to Hallmark and get a pet sympathy card. It's important for me to send the card so that's not the question. They were very devoted to this baby of theirs and she was 19 years old.

I got the cutest card when my dog passed away, and I've always kept it and remembered it.

I got the cutest card when my dog passed away, and I've always kept it and remembered it. Was it a pet loss card or was it a "I am so sorry for your loss" pretty, scenic card? Was it the sentiment inside the card that made you keep it?

Yes- we don't have kids as you know when we lost Duke we got cards even a small gift from my sister. My one sister made me a little necklace charm with his picture. My other sister paid for his paw print in ceramic, she called the vet directly, but she's a vet tech, so she's sensitive to those things. Those cards were my favorite. Most of them said 'Thinking of you' or Rainbow Bridge stuff. Our vet sent us one as well.I like the ones if the specifically mention him by name or have paw prints.

I didn't know which way to vote. I think either would be appreciated.

My vet sent a card with animals in heaven at the end of a bridge welcoming my cat. Super cheesy. I know there's no cat heaven. But the sentiment really meant a lot and brought me comfort that she was at peace now. So my vote is for specific.

I found the pet sympathy cards at Target. I purchased about 5 and keep them on hand.
Our dog died, age 16. She was one of this vet's first patients. He made a donation to Morris Animal Foundation. I was very touched by that. If a close friend/relative has a pet die, we donate there also, and send the pet sympathy card.

We received pet sympathy cards when both of our goldens passed away because most of our friends have furry kids.
In fact, we just adopted a new spaniel mix which we took to our vet this past week, and today we received a thank you for choosing the vet clinic. I thought that was kinda sweet.

Thinking of my circle of close friends, the answer is entirely dependent on the person. You are in a much better place to judge if she would appreciate a card at all, and if so one that is pet specific or more thinking of you.

Just send a card. Any card. If you had a personal relationship with the dog, add a cute anecdote about that. I promise you I never cared. But I did appreciate those who note a pet's passing.
If they have young kids, my kids really loved the book Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant. Amazon sells it and it's really, really sweet.

My vet sent me a nice card and a beautiful candle set with three candles. It was unexpected and really touching. Enclosed with it was a written description of a worldwide network of prayers for animals said at a specific time on a Monday evening. Apparently, this has been done all across the world since 1993.
You were to say three prayers, lighting one of the candles with each prayer. 1. Prayers for your lost pet. 2. Prayers for pets of family and friends. 3. Prayers for all the homeless, forgotten, abandoned, abused animals in the world.
I gave a set to give to a coworker after his cat was hit by a car and killed. He was so devastated when he told me about it. I went home and made up a set of 3 candles, printed out the suggested set of prayers from a website onto vellum paper and I tied a little cat paw charm around each of the candles. When I gave it to him the next day, he burst into tears and I wasn't sure I had done the right thing, but a few weeks later, he thanked me for doing so. He said that he and his wife found comfort in saying the prayers for their pet for the past two Monday nights and he said they planned to continue until the candles were all gone.
And since I have so much paper and scrapbook materials, I also made up a few dozen pet-specific cards to give to my vet to send out to her patients who have lost their pets. She was so thankful to be able to send a handmade card and said she had difficulty finding pet specific cards at times. I made them blank on the inside because the one she sent to me was blank and she wrote her own message. I kept her in cards for a while, making a few whenever I had the creative urge hit me and taking them to any appointments I had for one of my critters. She was an awesome vet and when she moved to get married, I was happy for her, but sad for us.
So, my vote is to either buy or make a card that is pet specific. And if you really want to go all out, buy a nice candle set or a candle with 3 wicks and print out the info from one of the Monday pet prayers sites.

As someone who has lost pets in the past, any card would be much appreciated.

I think both are acceptable. It's a sweet idea but I do cry so hard every time I've gotten that pet sympathy card in the mail from the vet. I think a "thinking of you" might be easier to see than the ones with the cats and dogs looking out into the distance.

I have an anecdote to tell her that she doesn't know happened. It was just beautiful and it was about the dog they just lost and the one they lost a couple of years ago. That's my favourite memory of the two of them. I will just find my favourite card and send that. It will be over and done with.

I don't think it matters which kind. What matters is that you're thinking of her. Just pick one.

We have lost 6 cats during the past year or so Our vet send us lovely cards with cats on them and a handwritten message inside. They always enclose a little packet of forget me not seeds for us to plant. I haven't actually planted any yet but plan to put some in a pot in our back yard. I always smile when I see my mum's succulents growing so I know I will enjoy seeing flowers and thinking of all our little furry friends. Corinne
