Im having a hard time finding my motivation and I am running out of time. I have two final papers that were due today (obviously not happening) but I can still take the small hit for the late penalty and be okay as long as they are turned in no later than monday night. My schedule just goes batty after that. The problem is I have absolutely no motivation. I have been staring at my computer all day and nothing. Usually I am a last minute writer but this is ridiculous. These are the last two of my degree. If I get them in and pass them, (which so far hasn't been an issue) then I am done with school a week from today. All done. Degree finished. Yet here I sit at midnight my time with two massive papers staring me in the face. There has been a ridiculous amount of stress with this 8 week set of classes. I can't even begin to tell you all the ridiculousness that has happened and for the first time since I started this degree a year ago, I am behind. Oh sure Ive gotten stuck before and have come here once for help, however; I always managed to get it done and on time. Not this time and now Im desperate. Im so tired. I have an upper respiratory infection, plagued with a migraine most of the week due to the weird weather, the cats have kennel cough (try giving cats oral antibiotics.....not fun) and I am covered in scratches. The house is a disaster and the bills/taxes need to be done. I have been working full time and taking classes. Im so close. one would think that would be motivation enough. But Im just done. If I push hard I can probably have one of them done in 2-3 hours because of all the pre-work the course had with it. Im just having a super hard time getting motivated to do anything. I guess there isn't much anyone can do, just me having to push through this. Its crazy just how unmotivated I am to get this finished and yet so much hinges on this being done. Whose bright idea was this anyway???

Start in the middle of a paper. Seriously. Write a rough outline and pick a middle point that is the least painful. Stop before the conclusion, go back and do the part between the into and where you started, then write the conclusion and intro.
My entire life, I have written the intro last. Trained my son to do it do, too. For both of us, it can be an antidote to the pain of a looming paper. You literally avoid starting it until it's the last thing you have to do.
Good luck.

Write one sentence.
Then tell yourself to write for five minutes and time yourself.
Then tell yourself that it wasn't that bad and write for five more minutes.
Repeat.
Well begun is half done, as Mary Poppins would say.
Good luck to you. I well remember those days in college. I always had an irresistable urge to clean rather than write.

My method is the same as AmeliaBloomer Even when I was writing my dissertation last spring...middle first. If you don’t have to work tomorrow GO TO BED. Get some rest and let your brain recharge. Take the small hit on your points. Start fresh in the morning. Good luck!!!!

I got the basic formatting done. Just headers etc that the rubric calls for. Maybe bed is the option, I dunno. I feel like I need to have at least one done tonight and work on the other tomorrow. I have nothing planned tomorrow at all but I don't want another day like today. Although Im sure my body needed the down time. Between the URI and a really bad moment at work last night Im wiped out. ugh. Why can't I invent cloning. That has to be easier than this Going to work on the suggestions...put the stuff In that is already done for the most part and work on the original pieces last.

Sick as you are, you have a good excuse. write your professor an email giving him a heads up that your papers will be late due to illness but that they will get in by Monday night. Professors appreciate the courtesy and since you are ill, might even give you full credit since you have given them notice.
Then, think of some kind of snack, something rich that you don't indulge in very often. Promise yourself you will go first then in the morning and get it. Work what you can tonight then take an hour or two nap and then go get your snack, but only if you made progress tonight. It is a reward see. Then only eat half of it and promise yourself the rest once both papers are done. The sugar high from the first half will help you keep going and the promise of the rest will give you a tiny bit more motivation.
You just have to play games with your self. That is how I made it through two Master's Degrees while working full time at a very demanding job.

Hopefully you've got the nearly prepared stuff just about filled in, and are getting ready to hop into bed for some much needed rest. Wishing you a great day tomorrow.

Consider this a kick in the ass!! You have worked your butt off to get this far & you can't stop now. You have proven that you can do hard things and this degree is HUGE!! Get to work and get these two papers done & turned in by Monday night. Remember why you are doing this and plan a big reward when you graduate. You'll be so darn happy when it's behind you!

This is what I do. I just pick a sentence randomly that's not an introduction, and start writing. I don't even care if it's incoherent, rudimentary, and jumbled, I just go and ramble intentionally. If I were writing about something like scrapbooking for example, I would just say, "scrapbooking is great. I like it. I love how my family can easily reminisce and recall details even I have forgotten. It seems it's really important from a....." and then I get more and more ideas. Just go.

Go to a public place to work on them. A busy area of the library or a coffee shop perhaps. I find I can get busier on a dreaded project when I tell myself everyone can see me slacking off. I pretend I'm being "supervised," I suppose. Crazy maybe, but it has worked for me.

In my experience, agonizing about doing it is way worse than actually doing it! I sure you know this. Just sit down and start writing.
