Pick something that is higher in protein and lower in carbs. Something like Zignature brand would be a good choice.

We buy Purina one. It's a standard grocery store brand, but it rates higher than some of the cheaper brands. In all actuality, I don't think dog food brands matter all that much - when I was growing up, our dogs ate the cheapest crap they had at the grocery store, they all lived to be 14+ years old with practically zero health problems. Get what you can afford, and thanks for thinking of the pups!

Costco dog food is rated fairly high and isn't too expensive.

Costco dog food is a quality food. Purina One would also be satisfactory. This is a wonderful thing for you to do.

Costco dog food is a quality food. Purina One would also be satisfactory. This is a wonderful thing for you to do. These would be my two choices for this also Purina One is probably the best grocery store food and Costco's Kirkland brand food would be the best and most economical due to the bulk buy Very kind and thoughtful of you

I have a friend who is a vet and there's a homeless camp near her office. She also volunteers her time to care for those pets who in the camp who are ill. She says to buy whatever is on sale. And does recommend the Costco food. A pet is often the last luxury the homeless hang on to and the reason why they may sleep outdoors rather than in a shelter.

So that makes sense to me now why pentobarbital would be in recalled pet food! I only read the dog food adviser notice. Thank you for posting that. GREED just irks me to no end!!!!!!!

I buy a bag of Costco brand dog & cat food to keep in my car for homeless people & their pets. I fill up a gallon size baggie of food for the pet & a bottle of water & give that to the pet. The people get a baggie with a washcloth, soap, hand sanitizer, socks, granola bar & a few other items & $5. I think they are happy with their bags.
