We are just heading into autumn - my favourite season and then winter so our spring is months away but when it gets here I will welcome it and the beautiful blooms that come with it.

Oooh, I want one of those. Does it need full sun? We're having a hard time getting stuff to stay alive in our partially shaded back yard.

Wow! That's so pretty! My backyard is a muddy mess right now and all the grass is dead, so I'm having it redone this year. I'm partially to blame for originally buying the grass at Houston Garden Center where everything has a lifespan of about 2 weeks. This reminds me that I need to make a new container arrangement for my front porch!

That’s beautiful. I love spring and I’m seeing the starts of spring bulbs here. I bought some new purple and white tulip bulbs last year and I’m excited to see them. I can’t remember where I planted them though!
The tulips only come back a couple of years for me, unless I plant the ones already blooming in a pot and then plant them in fall. If I get just bulbs they only last a couple of years. I have no idea why.

No pics here (I'm at work), but we have daffodils, hyacinth, tulip trees (Japanese Magnolia) and (evil) Bradford Pears in bloom right now.

I have a thing for purple flowers. My absolute favorite blooming tree is the Jacaranda. I fell in love with them while living in Jo'burg. ScrapsontheRocks can testify to how gorgeous they are in bloom. We tried to grow one here and it didn't work, so this is the closest I can get to having one. Oooh, I want one of those. Does it need full sun? According to this link, they will grow in full to partial shade. Might be worth a try for your yard. It is a very slow growing tree so my advice is buy the largest one you can afford. I bought some new purple and white tulip bulbs last year and I’m excited to see them. I can’t remember where I planted them though! That's going to be a beautiful surprise when they pop up! I've tried planting bulbs before but finally gave up. The neighborhood squirrels think I've planted a gourmet garden for them and dig them all up.

We have had the mildest winter I can ever remember. Two dustings of snow by end of January. We did get nine inches of fluffy powder in February. Our perennials are already coming up, but we won't have flowers for a while since March and April are the snowiest months. I have loved the 50's and 60's instead of 10's and 20's.

We still have a bunch of snow on the ground but I planted a ton more allium bulbs in the fall, and I can't wait to see them sprout up!
Your flowers are so pretty.

after months of warm weather.. warmer than summer, it is back to cold and finally, after weeks and weeks of no rain, we are getting a major storm tonight. so everything is blooming and will be pounded by the rain and cool weather.
we need the snow in the mountains though so I am happy.. could use about 10 more storms.

I still remember the first time I saw massive purple trees from the air on a spring visit to Southern California in 2004 and immediately started researching whether they would grow in Washington. They wouldn't thrive in the rain, but fast forward a couple of years and a move to San Diego means I now have one of these beauties in the yard. You need to visit San Diego in May/June because Jacarandas are heavily used in public landscaping here. Your Mountain Laurel is gorgeous!

So jealous, I just want to live somewhere where the winter isn't so long. I'll come back in May and post when our trees start to leaf out.

Wow, this is super pretty! I just love the colors of spring soooooo much! The full colors of spring are a couple months away still, but for now the daffodil and crocus bulbs are just getting ready to bloom! Woot! Wow, can you tell I love spring? That was a whole lot of exclamation points

If I get just bulbs they only last a couple of years. I have no idea why. Most tulips do not perennialize. They may come back less and less over 2 or even 3 years, but that's it. You need to check the package or google the species. It's mainly the small, rock garden variety that do. If you want early spring bulbs that perennialize, plant narcissus and crocus.

my apple trees are in full bloom! When I was a little girl I lived on Orchard Avenue right next to a large apple orchard, and I used to pick the blossoms and 'sell' them door to door. I think all I got was a gingersnap cookie!

All of Central CA is in bloom right now. The Almond trees are at peak bloom and the stone fruit is just starting to bloom. It really is the prettiest time to be living in the God forsaken place.

Would love to experience it some day *sigh* Ah, but come June-Sept, we will all be moaning about the heat and humidity while you are enjoying pleasant weather! You need to visit San Diego in May/June because Jacarandas are heavily used in public landscaping here. I had no idea San Diego had jacarandas. Since San Diego is on my list of places to visit, I know what time of year to come out there!

Your Texas Mountain Laurel is beautiful!
When we lived in the Houston area, one of my favorite things to do in spring was to search for my first blue bonnet sighting of the spring.(I’m easily entertained). The wildflowers, especially the bluebonnets, along I-45 from Houston to Dallas are so beautiful in March and April.
Spring comes later to central Oklahoma than it does to the Houston area. I haven’t seen to much in bloom yet, but we’ll have lots of blooms before too long.
