I scrap mostly 8.5x11"
I'm thinking of buying a very large binder (3" or 5") at Wal-Mart to use as an album.
Anyone do this?

That's what my DD does. She's determined to not overspend on scrapbooking like her mom.

I am planning on digi scrapping on 8.5 by 11 so I can print the pages here at home and thought I would use regular binders. I will get the ones with the D rings. But you usually have to embellish your albums anyway so can do that just as well with those.

i absolutely do this! i have way more regular binders than actual scrapbook albums. i'd rather spend my money on the fun stuff that goes inside the albums i did just score a bunch of albums at both hobby lobby ($5) and tuesday morning ($4) about 3 weeks or so ago. ETA: i scrap almost exclusively 8.5x11 as well.

I have done so but when I find a deal on albums I switch out.

ScrapSaturdayS on You Tube does. I think there was a recent video where she showed what type she uses.

I use the big binders at Costco and fill the front and back covers with one of my layouts. I print out a cute little clip art and the year for the spine.
I used to be able to get 4 inch binders from Costco, but can only get 3 inch now. They are much less expensive that anywhere else I have tried. They look nice all lined up on my shelf with just the spines showing.

I've done it for years (since 2002) but at this point, I finally have access to a HL and the 50% albums are only 7.50 and a decent quality binder is close to that anyway (and the economy ones don't hold up to the weight of scrapbook layouts over time) so I'm slowly switching over one 50% off albums sale at a time.
