Just curious how common polyps are and what age/screening have you had them?
I was kind of surprised that they found one on my first screening last week. I'm 6 month shy of 50 and was screened a little early due to anemia. Got the biopsy results today and it was benign, thankfully. I definitely wasn't expecting it though on my first screening.
Also I've forgotten to ask, but I believe the polyp gets me more frequent screenings, anyone know how often? I know it's 10 years if no polyps.

My DH and his sister both had a screening early (40 and 37 respectively) due to their Mom passing away last year from colon cancer. They each had a small polyp that was benign. They have to be seen again in 5 years.

I don't think polyps are uncommon, and one is typically not a big deal, depending on the size and type. Tubular adenomas are the most common type and least likely to turn into anything IIRC. The frequency needed will depend on those same parameters and family history. Your gastroenterologist should tell you how often. When I wanted to learn about my polyps I googled the specific kinds I had, and it listed a lot of helpful information including some guidelines for follow-up visits. The one thing I read over and over was that your take away with benign polyps should be that they were found and removed. And to keep on top of check-ups.
eta: Father died from colon and stomach cancer so my first screening was at 42, 9 polyps found and one kind of large. All tubular adenomas, all benign. Second one less than 2 years later, 8 new small ones found of varying types all also benign. Based on my history and these polyps I need to be back in within 1-2 years. I will be.

My husband just had a colonoscopy today, his third one. He is 63. One benign polyp found and removed. If it's pre-cancerous upon biopsy, then he gets the next colonoscopy in 3 years, 5 years if not pre-cancerous.
I had one hyperplastic polyp removed during my first colonoscopy. Second one was clear. I think I was told 5-7 years for rescreening.

My father had colon cancer, so my siblings & I all got tested early. My youngest brother had 3 polyps at his first colonoscopy at age 43. I had 1 polyp at my 2nd one at age 54 All were benign. We both need to go every 3 years, my other siblings go every 5 years.

My husband I had colonoscopy's done the year we turned 50.
I was clean as a whistle and am good for 10 years.
My dh had two (I think) polyps and he has to do it again in 5 years. His were non cancerous.
I think the absolute worst part of a colonoscopy is the prep.

My brother had a polyp and also had anemia. Maybe they are connected. They did remove the polyp in his case. Did they remove yours?

I had a colonoscopy at 51. I had three polyps that were precancerous. I have to have another colonoscopy next June. Yay. Every three years for me.

I've had strict doctors. My grandmother had colon cancer and my ob/gyn used to urge me to get a colonscopy when I was in my 30's! I got one every 5 years. I have heard of a bunch of people having polyps. I'd imagine you'd have to go back every 3 years or so.

My brother had a polyp and also had anemia. Maybe they are connected. They did remove the polyp in his case. Did they remove yours? He didn't think the anemia was connected. The shape of mine made it difficult to remove so he wants me to see an MD in the city to have it taken out. He did get a biopsy of it and said it was the most common type and it is benign. So i'll be following up and getting it removed. I'm grateful it was found so it can be dealt with. I even nagged dh who has blown off his MD about it and he made an appt now. Honestly, it was freaking me out a little - the horror stories of prep, etc., but I will tell you it was no big deal at all. The prep wasn't really that big a deal, worse in my head than it was in reality. Procedure I don't have memory of. The worst part was the dehydration.

I'm so sorry you have to have another procedure to have the polyp removed.
I've had two colonoscopies, each with a single polyp removed & biopsied (benign). They were 5 years apart and I was told 7 years for the next colonoscopy.
