I'm hosting a baby shower for 80 (ACK!) people in a couple weeks. It will be a Saturday afternoon - 2:00-4:00. The theme is Born to Be Wild - aka safari animals (zebra, elephant, giraffe...) I was thinking I would just do finger foods. Vegetables and dip, cheeseball and crackers (or maybe ham cubes and cheese cubes?), cupcakes, pink lemonade (baby is a girl) and water. I'm kinda freaking out about food though. When we were first talking about this, I had some great ideas for food, but now I can't remember anything. Are finger foods ok? Should I have salad (green, pasta, fruit?) or little sandwiches? Maybe a couple options for dessert? Also, trying to keep the budget in check, so cheap is good. Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated! carol

Finger foods are definitely ok for a 2:00 shower.
I would nix the cheese all. Hard to keep cool to preserve the texture, and hard to help yourself to quickly in a buffet line.
Veggies and dip, finger fruits like grapes and strawberries, cheese and crackers, mini muffins, cucumber sandwiches, mini quiches, cream puffs, pinwheels, and cupcakes, are some other suggestions.

Yes, at 2:00, finger foods are the way to go
Veggie tray Fruit tray Cocktail meatballs in crockpot Chips/dip Chips/salsa Spinach Dip and/or artichoke dip Pinwheels (there are many different kinds but you can also buy them in the frozen section, just remember to thaw the day before) Deviled eggs Pasta salad Pigs in the blanket (made with cocktail wieners) Chicken salad with crackers Cake Punch
I hope everything goes well

Your menu sounds good to me, I might add some chicken salad sandwiches cut into 4 triangular pieces and/or pinwheels. Finger foods are perfect for a 2pm shower.
If you're looking for something "cutesy", we made pacifiers with jellybeans and lifesavers (held together with frosting) for my friend's shower. Thought I'd mention it since jelly beans are "in season".

Pinterest had some cute ideas--its not pigs in a blanket, its "Franks in a Baby Blanket"
They had fruit kabobs. Rice krispies on a stick dipped in blue or pink chocolate
I'm a fan of things in a cup I can just grab and walk away.
But at 2pm I'm not expecting a full meal. Good luck! Have fun!

If you belong to Costco or such, go there. They have lots of things like little sandwiches and dips that you can use.

Keep it simple!!!! 80 is a ton of people, I would be very careful about choosing anything that is labor intensive. 2-4 is a perfect time as no one is expecting a meal.

GREAT ideas! Thanks so much! I'm less stressed now that I know what to write on my grocery/Costco list! carol
