I'm not sure if they have secret deals, but I do suspect that the companies promote the item where they make a bigger profit. The thing that makes me completely nuts are reviews where the review team all gets some new free item to review, and ALL of them LOVE it so MUCH and it's just the best new thing, and you MUST have it ~~ and then 6 months later it's on everyone's "useless tools I never use" list. It's like to movie reviews in Cosmopolitan magazine - none of them are ever bad. Frankly, if you have a review site, and nothing ever has a bad review or even a negative comment about it, I'm not going to believe the good stuff either. I want to know things like "if you already have xxx, you don't need this, it accomplishes the same thing" or "at the suggested price of $$$, I would have to think long and hard about whether I'd get enough use out of this to justify the price".

I think some companies have agreements to cross-promote, or the owners may just even like each other so they push each other's site/products/etc.
I can tell you that when it comes to retail, certain manufacturers do give better incentives than others to push their product - it could be volume discounts, free product for selling a certain amount, even trips or gifts. It could be as simple as that. Some companies also give money for mentions, or for advertising their product, etc.

The ink thing is tiresome. Since there is no way to get side by side charts of every ink color and I have to buy online I end up with four of the exact same color. I wish now that I had just bought one brand I like in all colors and added just their new colors as they came out. My favorite brand stopped adding colors and didn’t have refills so I started buying others. The same ink company is making exact duplicate colors for a half dozen stamp companies. I made a mistake trying to pick up colors that I thought might be a shade different. I wish these designers who tout so many ink brands would just say, by the way this color is an exact duplicate of the color in the other brand I showcased two days ago.
I’m kind of tired of the new glue of the month thing too.

Now I know after a lot of trial and error that I love Lawn Fawn Inks the best and that Tombo liquid glue is my favorite. But oh yeah, before I figured that out if I saw ppl using some new thing I'd rush out to get it. Just gets ridiculous! I don't mind trying new things but a lot of the time I would get a new glue that was purported to be sooooo much better than anything else only to find it was crap! I guess we need to learn to trust ourselves and our instincts and just do what is best for us!

First it was tombow mono multi, then ranger multi medium matte, then ranger collage medium, then lawn fan, and now gina k connect glue. So far I'm sticking with the multi medium matte (the collage medium is a huge fail for me) but admit I want to try the connect glue. I still like tombow but dang, if it squeezes out it's sticky forever.

Gale - it is sticky forever But if you let it dry to sticky and then attack it with an adhesive eraser, it comes off quite nicely. However, don't put it in one of those fine-tip bottles! It gunks up in the tip and just makes a heck of a mess.

I never use it for fine dies if it will seep out because of all the sticky edges. It does usually rub off with your finger, but with my luck I end up leaving a dirty smudge on white paper. For fine dies I used Scotch Quick Dry or Ranger Matte Multi Medium.

I think crafters should rise up and say no more tiny bottles of expensive glue. I’ve been using Roxanne’s quilt baste glue for years on the big pieces. It’s not totally cheap ($23 for 6oz) and it’s shiny but it holds and works in the fine tip applicator. I’m on a search for a cheaper bulk glue that’s matte. Some sort of PVA glue that can go into a needle nosed applicator. I’m embarrassed to say I was on the new glue train. I got the Connect a few weeks ago and haven’t even tried it. The Collage was out of stock or I might have gotten that too. That’s when I woke up. There’s got to be a cheaper matte PVA that gives a little bit of wiggle room. In the meantime will putting Elmer’s in a needle nose work, at least for the big stuff?

I only glue baste now (unless it's a small wall hanging or pot holder or something).

Roxanne’s being the same as Elmer’s is good news. I have to buy Roxanne’s online. I’m glad to use a specialty matte glue on embellishments and letters but I need a cheaper glue for the big stuff. I’ll see how Elmer’s does in a fine tip applicator.

I agree with cbet about "We got to have it and then useless tools in six months." I don't buy anything unless it fits who I am. I also hate the big name crafters who shame you because you love useless tool or not so popular tool. This isn't a popularity game it is your creativity. I am so happy I am rebel. Popularity holds you back. riley The ink thing is a big one for me too. I don't want all that ink. It is only 2-3 companies that make all that ink. I noticed I use my brush marker's more than my ink pads when I want to ink up a stamp. I guess it is that rebel thing again. You got me curious about Elmer's School Glue in a fine tip bottle. I had to go find a tutorial. Here you go- weallsew.com/perfect-patchwork-piecing-tip-elmers-school-glue/This glue thing is killing me. I didn't know about the new glue of the month. I am glad I haven't been exposed. Sorry to all who have. I know what glues work for me. I don't live close to the craft stores. I have to buy my glue at WalMart, lol. I stick with classics. I guess my biggest glue splurge is ZigWay Glue Pen because I use it for paper piecing. I like ATG tape to use in my journals. I don't use that gun. I donated mine.

The best glue since Aleenes Acid Free reformulated and RUINED it is
Lineco Neutral PH Adhesive. And buy the size Large ScraPerfect cap for it. It is fantastic for my popup cards, heck fantastic for anything paper related and a little goes a long way. I buy mine from Karen Burniston.com because I'm always buying my dies there.
Right now they are out of stock because Lineco doesn't ship in cold weather because freezing the glue ruins it.

Thanks for the glue suggestions and the link. I’ll try the Lineco when the weather warms up and in the meantime Elmer’s in a fine tip applicator gets a try.
I will have to say I like the Nuvo glue pen for doing skinny die cut letters. There are two size applicators available and since it kind of seeps out of a wick tip kind of like a Copic marker. It does apply very evenly. Maybe about the same as a zig glue pen but more controllable. The Connect glue pen I won’t buy again. Maybe the sticking power is good but I don’t see anything special about it, glue in a tube and not much of it for the price. I don’t think I can be sold any more new designer glues.
It would be interesting to know how it all works. Altenew certainly has paired up in a big way with several name designers.

I've decided I can't stand the Tombow Multipurpose Glue. I can never get if off my fingers. I prefer Glossy Accents. For fine details I like to use Stampin' Up!'s Fine-Tip Glue Pen.

Yeah, that is some sticky stuff. The best way to get it off your fingers (which will sound kind of weird) - hand lotion. Use plenty of hand lotion, rub it on/in and then wipe off the excess. Rubbing alcohol is supposed to work, too, but the hand lotion doesn't dry out your skin.

Although it holds well I don’t use the Tombow much because of the large tip applicator. I put tiny lines or dots of glue near the edges and Tombow puts out too much for me. I’ve never tried pouring it into a fine tip applicator. Is it water soluble? I agree it’s messy. Maybe its dry and tack qualities contribute to it being so sticky on the fingers.
I guess the promotion of the glue stuck out for me because that seems like a supply that should last awhile. It was like hey last month you said this glue was the best and now we have another best. Nobody is forcing me to buy this stuff, but it stretches a designer’s credibility to have a new favorite so often, especially when the prices go up and the applicators and jars get tinier and tinier.

I noticed a lot of hybrid inks coming out. Who makes them?
As far as glue, I love multi matte medium. I bought distress collage as well and didn't notice much of a difference.
I do notice that crafter you tuber's all start pumping up the same product at the same time. So, it means they are getting paid to promote it. Even if companies don't pay them directly, they get paid due to affiliate links.

I like multi medium matte also. I tend to use it most often for embellishments.
On the glue front Lawn Fawn just came out with a new glue pen thing. Who’s next? So far nobody I watch has jumped on it. I fell for the Nuvo glue pen at the beginning of the multiple glue pen frenzy and it has a nice tip. No better than my old Zig though.
I haven’t tried a lot of hybrid inks but I have a few Hero Arts hybrids in cubes and I like those.

I believe Stewart Superior is the manufacturer of all the hybrid inks. I still love and use their Palette inks. They're permanent and come in a nice variety of colors, although none of the stores carry them.

I do think manufacturers give free product to popular crafters to promote. I don't feel a need to buy everything right away, though, despite their efforts.
When I find a product that I like, I tend to stick with it, not flit from product to product like a butterfly.
I use Zig Glue pen for paper piecing, and the glue sold by Heartfelt Creations for 3D flower making. It's the Designer "Dries Clear" Adhesive by Art Glitter.
I used to use CTMH ink pads, but they did not work well when coloring with Copics. I mostly use Momento ink pads now.

There is a lot of cross promotional work done in the craft industry. You are also right that there are just a few ink manufacturers. Even the one I was on their DT didn't tell me which other companies they made ink for, although they eluded to doing such things. Since I have a huge amount of ink pads and re-inkers I will stick with that brand. The current DT I design for has their own ink line, so I do use that when completing DT projects . . . but when I am doing other ink based things I go with my Tsukineko/Imagine Crafts ink.

Yes, me too I have been using the same couple of glues for my cardmaking for years with no hassles. Some You-Tubers/Bloggers may say that they aren't on any Design Teams so they are free to promote products that they like - but I find it hard to believe that their opinions aren't biased in some way to promote company's products because the companies know that if certain cardmakers say: "This is a fantastic product...." that people will just go out and buy it "because that person says it's great" - but for all they know, it is a product they already have that is just packaged differently or rebranded. 'That Purple Tape' is also something that has been heavily promoted - but I watched a You-Tube video comparing it to other removable tapes for holding down dies to cardstock/paper as you put them through a diecutting machine and it wasn't as good as the paper (micropore) tape as far as being able to reuse multiple times. But I am sure people will buy the purple tape because it has been so heavily promoted by well-known You-Tubers/Bloggers. Guess I am getting rather cynical in my old age....but I prefer to watch videos that give real comparisons rather than just promotions that can give you the impression that it is a real comparison when I feel, IMHO, that it really isn't.

It makes me laugh that micropore tape has made it into the crafting scene Some nurse must have used it knowing that this tape usually doesn't stick too much to the skin therefore it wouldn't permanently stick to paper. As a former home care nurse, I had an abundance of it but I returned it with the rest of my supplies to work when I left the agency. Oh well I have an abundance of washi tape. I bought some when that first came out but never really liked it. At least I haven't wasted my money.

Micropore tape has been used by sewers for years. I remember buying it for taping together pattern pieces way back in the 80s. It was sold in sewing catalogs but I just bought rolls of it from the drugstore.

My Fun Stampers hybrid ink is the Bomb. I can use it when watercoloring or using copic markers. Impression detail quality is great. Nice to have 1 stamp pad that is truly multi-purpose.
