I just started recently-last time was 10+ years ago.
So the "trainer" recommended that I do treadmill, bike each time and then switch back and forth with upper/lower body- doing upper body one day and lower body the next time.
Even without the bike I'm spending about 1.5 hours + each time. Do I hate it that much or is that the norm?
I spend about a half hour on the treadmill. He has be on about seven machines each for upper and lower so it's about an hour on the machines.
If I add in the bike, then I'm up to two hours.
Is that about right? (Ugh)
ETA 1/30/23-Ha! I thought someone had seen me at the gym today. First time in 6+ months!

I only do warm up and cool down on the bike/treadmill/elliptical/stair/rower so about 10-15 minutes. The two days I do upper, 2 lower body It takes me about an hour to am hour 15...i think.
The I have two just cardio days in which I also do abs (I do abs most days because they really need work) and this days it only takes me about 45 min
Eta, I have 5 machines each that I do

I wish I had more time to spend. I do an hour class (Zumba) and sometimes also add on time on the treadmill/stairmaster/elliptical. If we ever get spring here, I will transition to more time on the trails (hiking/running). 1-2 hours on a weeknight or longer if doing a hike with a friend. Weekends can be up to 4-5 hours.

I don't do cardio because I despise it and it's going to take up a chunk of your time. Are your trying to lose a good bit of weight- maybe that's why so much cardio? I lift for about an hour. I don't rotate upper body and lower body-I break them up. I do chest/triceps one day, then legs-quad dominant, then back/biceps, shoulders next day, then back to legs-hamstring/glutes dominant. My legs would be dead if I did them every other day- they need time to rest. I also end every workout with some ab work- it doesn't get a separate day.

I go 8 minutes on the bike to warm up. Then half hour of free weights or machines alternating legs, arms. Then 20- 30 minutes of cardio (treadmill, running, stairclimber) then 10 minutes of planks, situps floor exercises.

30 minutes on the treadmill and 15 minutes doing weights if I feel like it. Any more is too much and I won't continue. I want to be in and out of there asap. I don't enjoy the gym but I like how I looked. I did all sorts of machines and i did it until I felt fatigue and that was the end. I went home and said I was done for the day.

When I went to the Y I would swim for about 20 minutes then do 20-30 minutes either walking or riding the bike. This was years ago when I was younger and didn’t need as much exercise Now, at 55, I just do a 30 minute Crossfit class. We do some dumb bell and kettle bell work, but I’d like to add a weight class soon. I love Crossfit, it’s a quick but hard workout. But I also love my gym and coaches, so that helps make it fun.

I do an hour crossfit class 3 to 4 days a week. It does a great job rounding out my workout. Without crossfit I was floundering at the gym and not seeing results because of that. Have you considered anything like crossfit or some other form of training class?

Even without the bike I'm spending about 1.5 hours + each time. If I add in the bike, then I'm up to two hours. Ugh, that is way too long in my opinion! I would be turned off pretty quickly if I had to commit to 2 hours every day (or every second day). My gym membership lapsed in January and I haven't bothered to renew, for a couple of reasons. The program that they set up for me included strength and cardio work. If I did the program properly and didn't take any shortcuts It would take about 50 minutes. Being the lazy sod that I am, I followed the program to the letter the first 2 or 3 times, then I slacked off and tried to get done in about 40 minutes. My programs was something like this: 3 minutes of warm up on the treadmill 3 sets of reps on 3 different machines, mix of arms and legs cardio 30 seconds of high intensity then one minute of normal x 3 eg. rowing machine or treadmill or bike 3 sets of reps on 3 different machines, mix of arms and legs cardio 30 seconds of high intensity then one minute of normal x 3 eg. rowing machine or treadmill or bike 3 sets of reps on 3 different machines, mix of arms and legs core strength training (3 sets each of push ups, sits ups, planking, and other ab work) cool down / stretching

That’s an awful lot of cardio.
I spend about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. I lift and do HIIT.

Depends on what I am doing. If it is mostly cardio, 35-40 minutes.
Full body workouts: 60-75 minutes.

An hour on the machines seems like too much. How many sets & reps does he have you doing on each machine? How much rest time are you taking between each set and machine? My total work out time is between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 min. I spend 1/2 hour with my trainer doing a mix of machines and free weights (typically 6-8 different things @ 2 sets each) , then I finish off with 30 min of cardio. I am trying to work my way back up to 45 min. after a foot injury back in Nov.

I don't go to a gym but I do go to Piliates classes in which I alternate between the reformer and the trapeze for an hour. I do this two, sometimes three times a week plus I walk 50 - 60 minutes 5 days out of 7.
gentle but strong is the way for me to go these days. I would not last at a gym!

I work out at lunch, so only about a total of 45-50 minutes actual floor time. It's about a 5 minute or so brisk walk to get to the gym, so I consider that part of my warm up. I don't do cardio at the gym - i run or ride bikes at home on my non-gym days.

Do you really have two hours a day to devote to exercise? Considering you haven't been to the gym in ten years, I'd have to guess not. I spend about an hour when I go to the gym, and that's plenty for me. Ask your trainer to help you out -- they should be able to see that either you're taking too long to do something or the workout is simply too long for you. Your trainer is there to help you meet YOUR goals, so you need to make them clear.

I do a full body free weight routine Tu/Th/Sat and it takes 50-70 minutes. I do a warm-up set and 3 working sets with rest of 2 - 4:30 minutes in between.
It's something to consider if you don't want to spend more time at the gym but want really good results. You get all your body parts working together instead of an arm day and a leg day. PM me if you want more info.

I do good to get an hour in a few times a week. And some weeks I don't get but one day in depending on our crazy schedule.

That seems like a lot of time on the machines. I do 30 minutes on the elliptical and then 45 minutes doing both legs and arms, 3 sets on each machine, 5 machines for legs and 5 machines for arms. I rest between 30 seconds and 1 minute between each set.

60-90 minutes - I take hour long group fitness classes that all combine cardio with strength. On the 90 minute days I add a core strength class.

It's the same for OrangeTheory classes or yoga classes.

30 min to 1 hour 10 min. Otherwise it’s just too much time. If I go 3x a week, that’s good enough for me

45 minutes Mon-Fri and 1.5 hours on Saturday but mainly because I'm talking and hanging out with friends. I'll probably have to up it this year and do more weight room stuff.

Too much cardio! Not necessary. Concentrate on weights. They'll give you the body you want.

One hour when I'm on my own; 1.5 when I'm with my trainer. And I hate every second of it, lol. Especially with my trainer. I adore him, but man, do I hate the workout.

I have 2 karate classes a week (45-60 minutes). I also lift 2x a week. It takes me about 30-45 minutes each time and I only do 5 different exercises. (Longer time is based on how much waiting I do for the machines I want.)
There is no freakin' way I would spend that long at the gym.

70 minutes. 10 to warm up on the elliptical and 60 with the trainer or in a class. I would seriously question a trainer who wants you to do that much cardio.
