I took my health in hand....and put my money where my mouth is on healthy wager. Lol. Money talks, right? Very cool! I sent the link to my DD...a history major / future teacher.

Today I learned March is Women's History Month. This year's theme? Nevertheless, she persisted. Read more about it here

Saturday I am marching in the March For Our Lives in in my hometown of Annapolis, MD to demand that the students lives become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools.
Today I'm going to make an appointment with an gyn doctor for an overdue check up that I've been putting off. I couldn't find a new doctor and just 2 weeks ago finally got a referral from a woman who works as a receptionist at my favorite doctor's office. I've been putting this off long enough. I think it's been 3 years.

What a lovely thread!
I have signed up Dahlia who is now eleven, to volunteer at our church's community outreach feeding the homeless next Tuesday during her Spring break.
They do great work, and I am happy she is going to be working hard all day from 10 am to around 7 pm doing whatever needs to be done to help. The kids will be supervised by their youth pastor and they will go out for lunch together, but other than that they will be working sorting clothes, packing up boxes, etc.
I have been wanting to get her involved more in community service and this is a great start for her. Toast to Compwalla.

Me and my family and a good friend are marching on Saturday. I kept my schedule at the gym this week even though I was crazy mad at my son and didn't sleep much.

I made a donation to a progressive young lady who, fresh out of college, is running to be a state representative. It does my heart good to see these amazing young women stepping up to the plate.

I had an ultrasound I've been avoiding for awhile. Then I came home, and like I do every day, came here to see what was going on. Every day for 16 years. (!!) Today, I decided to stop lurking and join you guys for real. Won't change the world, but it's something I've been meaning to do. welcome to the world of posting!!! now that you've come out of lurkdom, please stay a while!! ----------------------------------------------------- in another Compwalla type moment, I faced some facts about something that's been going on with me the last 6 months or so-- I had a bit of a heart-to-heart with my weight loss doctor today, and also with my boyfriend. I've been waffling for the last 6 months or so with my weight loss plan (gained back about 30 lbs that I lost last year), and realize I need to start talking to a counselor again about my depression issues and why I sabotage my weight loss attempts. That's a big thing for me to finally admit- to myself and to them- and I really want to get a handle on my issues and lose the weight-- for my mental and physical health.

I offer a different view point here where the majority think differently than I do.

I’m sitting here with tears in my eyes reading this thread. Words cannot express how much I love it. flanz, please continue to run it. You are doing a wonderful job. For me, after consulting with my cousin who has been a Navy doc in the DC area for 20+ years and is now in the civilian medical world, I switched my breast care from Ft Belvoir to Walter Reed. It is a farther drive, but my cousin strongly recommended them over Belvoir. So, I made the calls and the pitch and got it done. I already have a Nurse Navigator who has been awesome and will meet the whole team on the 29th. I am very happy to see so many women getting mammograms. With my kids and my eyes, I put off my regular mammogram for 5 years (had been good about it before), and wish I had taken the time. I want to send love and admiration to everyone who is marching today. I will be with you in spirit!

I marched in Michigan today. It was a great turnout with all age groups represented, including a ton of us aging hippies.
eta - forgot to say I wrote "IN MEMORY OF DEANNA + VIRGINIA #NEVERTHELESS SHE PERSISTED" on the bottom of my sign. Two great activist ladies gone too soon.

I'm glad you have a trusted doc to guide you and we're here for you, as you know. Much love to you!

Two great activist ladies gone too soon. I'm so mad at myself for forgetting to add Virginia and Nevertheless She Persisted to my sign. Totally intended to after one of the peas told us she was doing it last night. FANTASTIC turnout in Santa Barbara today!!! All ages. I'm feeling hopeful! And grateful to our local state senator who wrote legislation that passed here in CA allowing 16 yos to register to vote. So that's in place already. Today was a great step but we need to keep up the pressure, we need to help register voters and vote the gun-loving bums out across the nation!

I wasn't able to march today, but I'm hoping to attend a debate tomorrow between Ted Cruz and Joaquin Castro. It's being held at a high school close to my home. I'm not sure this is really "doing" anything, but it is at least staying engaged and listening to diverse viewpoints.
(Compwalla and I both loathed Cruz's representation of our state, and I'm hoping Castro demolishes him.)
