I love houses. I love shelter magazines, old house websites and real estate listing books you pick up for free outside of the grocery stores. I would choose to restore historic properties and sell real estate now as my career if I had a do-over. We currently live (10 years) in a 2300 sq.ft 4bed/2.5 bath two story home with a basement, a bonus room, welcoming front porch and a nice covered rear deck. I doubt that it's our forever home and I think it will sell quickly when we're ready.
I've been thinking about what I'd like next in a home. As much as I love cottages and I have always dreamed of living in the prettiest cottage with a picket fence, I'd probably want to build a practical one level brick ranch on a full basement since we're getting older. I think about it everytime I have to bring groceries up the stairs into the house.
I never again want a jetted tub, but I'd still love a deep soaking tub. I'd also love a large pantry in the kitchen and a mudroom near the laundry.
What's your dream house?

About 3000 sf, two dedicated offices, away from each other and from the main living areas of the home, great kitchen with huge island and a ton of storage, walk-in pantry, butler's pantry, finished basement with secondary living space and ample storage, master suite and two smaller guest/kid suites. Lots of natural light. Large covered patio/deck. On a few acres - more than 1, less than 10. ETA: LOL I was thinking about reality dream, not dream dream. Now I feel boring

I am lucky enough that we are getting ready to build our dream house...a Victorian farmhouse on 2 acres with a pool and a barn. It is going to have a large walk-in pantry(with a window even!), a large laundry room with room for all the dog crates, his and hers closets, a clawfoot tub, and wrap around porch. I am so excited!

I want big bathrooms (ours are so small, I can lock the door and start the shower at the same time, all from my perch on the loo). A big kitchen with lots of counter space. One can never have enough counter space for cooking. STORAGE. I want walk-in closets and pantries and coat closets that hold more than three coats. Last but not least, I would love a huge, wrap-around porch. With rocking chairs and porch swings and painted tables to play checkers on. Like they have outside Cracker Barrel.

I want my retirement home to have a first floor master, a first floor laundry and a coat closet. A soaking tub sounds perfect.
I would love a screened in porch & a deck and an attached garage.
My current house is small, 1,500 sf, and lacks my entire wish list, except the deck. But it is well built, from 1938, and has nice woodwork, 6 over 1 wavy paned glass windows and hardwood floors.
Plus as of last month, it is completely ours, no mortgage!

If I win the lottery tomorrow I’d find an older brick building in a town center that I could have an art gallery and an apartment.
And yes my apartment would be single floor with lots of closets. I’d also put in a studio for DD because I’d hope to lure her back home someday when she’s ready to settle. DD could inherit my gallery & studio.
Don’t worry I’d have something for DS too but it’s not as solidly thought out yet. I mean if I won the lotto I’d figure something out lol

My dream house used to be ultra traditional or a cottage - but now I think it’s a sleek 50s (mid century modern) modern house with a deck and an ocean view. A cottage on the beach would be nice too.
I’m not really into big houses. 3 bedrooms is fine - but a view of water and a beautiful garden would be a must.

Brand new, 1/4 acre lot with a lake or something in the backyard to give us privacy but that we would not have to maintain.
Our current house is 30 years old, dated, everything is breaking or has been replaced/fixed.
We have an acre lot which may not be huge but it is a major PIA to take care of.
We are in the south and grass grows 10+ months per year and the weeds never stop growing.
I'm always outside pulling weeds, trimming shrubs, etc. It is never ending and I'm so sick and tired of it.

We have a library that I would move into if allowed. It’s built in the Craftsman style but with sculptured blocks. I feel so comfortable there. The flooring is a type of vinyl or linoleum that is really cool. It’s had custom designs made in it and it seems really easy to maintain. It doesn’t look like Granny’s flooring, but rather somewhat flexible. I think it might be a good choice if you had family members you were concerned would fall easily.
I want a single floor home that is wheelchair accessible for my mom and DH’s future problems. At least 4 bedrooms, preferably with a bathroom for each bedroom. My bathroom would have a wet area that connected the shower and a Japanese style soaking tub. The kitchen would adjoin a sitting area so my family could be close while I cook. There would be one big room for TV and DH’s computers, as well as a den/office where we could go when we needed privacy for calls or business.
I’d like a greenhouse built onto the house, so I could be close in case someone needed me, but far enough apart from them that I could talk to my plants without my family answering or getting jealous. A screened in porch with an outside space for my grill and smoker. A garden at least as big as what I have now, but better kept. LOL. Trees, lots of trees, but far away not to interfere with our solar panels. Maybe an orchard...
I love windows and light, but I want the good windows, triple paned and double hung with good screens. I love our attic fan, so one of those would be nice, too. No carpet! Too many allergies here.
I may have given this some thought. LOL

I too daydream about the perfect house and location. Mine would be a craftsman style home with a huge front porch on a lake with mountain views. We'd be on 100 acres with not a neighbor in sight.
In this fantasy I don't have to deal with the realities I face now in my charming, but very dated, brick ranch: gutters that need cleaning and replacing, old carpet, no storage, temperamental plumbing.

Mine with be something with a view. I would LOVE something with floor to ceiling windows overlooking a lake or water. The rest would be negotiable, think I could live in a shack if I had that view, lol.

www.zillow.com/homedetails/356-Middleburg-Ln-Huger-SC-29450/10829490_zpid/?fullpage=trueI would love a place like this that's steeped in history. All the little details are fabulous. The window etched with the little girl's name? Wow. And those trees? Trees like that just speak to my soul. The kitchen is way too small and I'm sure they aren't showing the bathrooms for a reason, but it might all be worth it to live in a piece of history. I'd wander those grounds every day.

An Airstream travel trailer....the 26RBQ in Truffle décor being towed by an F-350 King Ranch. This way the whole USA and Canada could be my backyard and I get to change my view and neighbors at my desire.

But, if I am dreaming, a one level with an ocean view would be it.

Well for a reality based dream house, we're finally living in ours. It's not huge or fancy but after years of living in an old, cramped house in a busy area of town, our new house is perfect for us. The only thing it doesn't have is a pantry but that can be easily fixed. For now we are dealing with it but when eventually when the kitchen needs redone (not for 10-15 years) we will add one. , However if I were going crazy with my dreams and had an unlimited budget, that's different. I love craftsman and bungalow style houses. And old cottage/farmhouse type homes with large porches Nothing too huge, 2000-2500 sq feet maybe. Three-four bedrooms. A large kitchen with a butler's pantry. And a family room connected to the kitchen. In the country. We'd have lots of flowering trees, lilac bushes, flower gardens/boxes. A small barn/garage for my husband to work on cars/tractors and all the other toys he'd want. A barn with goats, chickens, a horse or two, etc for dd. Oh and we'd have a large mudroom with a doggy bath for our dog(s). And the barn would have a barn cat or two. We can't have cats as dh is allergic. But we'd have one or two in the barn. They'd have lots of shelter, hay, be fixed and vaccinated etc. So taken care of, just not "inside" cats. Some of the house I like on my Pinterest page.

single story with 3 bedrooms - two baths (maybe an additional powder room). Master bedroom would have SEPARATE walk-in closets. Master bath wouldn't have a tub but it would have a walk-in shower (accessible) with a hand-held shower head and a bench. Only need one sink in the master bath. I would like a separate dining room, a living room, a library (instead of a family room - with beautiful floor to ceiling shelves and a window seat), and a small bonus room for my sewing/scrapbooking/computer. Kitchen with a pantry (butler's pantry would be a plus -I had one once and loved it) Wrap-around porches are a must and the whole house and garden needs to be wheelchair accessible (because I'm realistic about my future). I would like a HUGE bonus room - either as a second story or over the double garage - that DH can use for his Lego etc... It would come with a gardener because I love beautiful gardens and have NO green thumb at all (nor do I have the physical abilty to do a lot of garden tasks) Lots of dogwood trees and a white picket fence
