My step sister upgraded her Cricut and gave her old one to my mom who is giving it to me ... she has no desire to use... but I have only had the original Baby Bug. I am so out of date but can anyone tell me this is a good one? And looks like I can download my own fonts for free?? The box just says Cricut Explore so I am assuming this is an original one

That is so nice of her and your mom. I don't know what the Baby bug is or how it worked but yes, you can download fonts to your computer and use them on cricut's Design Space. I love my cricut it is really fun to use, I have made so much stuff in that little machine. There are a lot of youtube tutorials. I find the software very easy to use although it can be very frustrating/annoying sometimes. I love that you can use a lot of different file formats like DFX, PNG, JPG, SVG without paying extra for it. One downside to the software is that it is web based so if you lose your connection or they have trouble with their servers then you won't be able to work in it. Also the software is not as advanced as the Silhouette's, but that depends on your needs. What I usually do if I want to make my own designs that require more tools, is work on Autocad and Illustrator. If you do not have those programs you can also use Inkscape which is an awesome free software that has a lot of tools and then you can save your files and upload them to Design Space. I download free fonts from here and here but there are more places like this too.

DaFont has a lot of cool free fonts. You don't need to subscribe to the Cricut Library for anything if you don't want to since it costs money. When I got my Explore, I already had a Create and Expression 2 so had tons of cartridges already. I had been using Craft Room with my E2, so all my linked cartridges showed up in Design Space. Also I had so much fun finding images on the internet for print and cut and free SVGs.

WELLLLLL I don't have any cartridges... my Baby Bug (which I believe was the very original cutting machine) and my cartridges all disappeared. I don't know if I left them at a weekend crop or what... All my cartridges and machine fit in one box so the whole kit and caboodle are gone. I have torn my house apart. I suspect my friend, ferblover is holding it hostage. HAHA..
But I have tons of fonts on my computer so I am sure that will be enough. My mom said she didn't see any manual in the box.. but I am sure there are online instructions.
ferbie... I can't believe YOU would be scared... you are the queen of that stuff!

Oh no!! They are all gone?! Well sometimes it is easier to just cut out letters or you can end up paralyzed over what to cut for your page! I know i know! The circuit was to be my compromise about never needing a computer to scrap and then bam they changed how the circuit works! Now I realize I have to use a computer or tablet etc to use my circuit and I am overwhelmed lol! I don't think there is a manual in the box it is all online. We should have a crop weekend where we learn together

There are lots of how-to videos on YouTube. What is it you want to make?

My Explore Air 2 didn't come with a manual. It's all online. Frankly, the YouTube videos are better than the Cricut videos.
I will say they have great customer service. I've used the online chat several times, as well as email for a bigger issue.
