I opened up Photobucket to see if I could get my West Wing siggy up and running again. Well, Photobucket popped up with this: This was taken in the spring of 2009. We were searching for our second miniature horse to be a companion to our first one, Izzy. My son was 10 here, nearly 11 but to me, especially now, looks so much younger. And this is what I took today: He turned 16 on Tuesday but we didn't do his cake (ice cream, his request) until today. I find myself gobsmacked at the change represented here. We've been through a lot with him in the last 5 years but I'm starting to think we're about to reach another stage that will be good for all of us. We hadn't seen much of that smile for a long while and it's so good to see it here.

Aww, happy belated birthday to your ds. My only dd turned 10 this year, and I can't believe that she's already in the double digits. I can imagine myself looking back at photos of her in five years and having similar emotions.

Does he have a beard, or it that a shadow? He's such a handsome fellow!

Thanks everyone sharlag: he has a scruffy beard like thing right on and under his jaw line. He hates shaving. When he had his haircut a couple of weeks ago, the barber did one of those thin line kind of trims to his beard that actually looked really good. If he'd only learn how to do it himself, LOL. I'm not a beard person. His hairy self has been one of the hardest things for me to adjust to!

You're right, in the first picture he does look very young.
In his birthday picture he looks very much like the young man that he's growing into.

Isn't it awesome when you find and look through old photos? To me, that's what makes scrapbooking so special; the ability to preserve those memories.

I feel your pain. I've taken to calling my son Scruffy McScrufferton. Lol Ha! At it's worst, I call him Jebadiah (sp?) because it remind me of the beards Amish men wear (no mustache).
