That's another thing I like about the AYW Course. With my knowledge of measurements, body type and dressing for my body type, I can shop almost exclusively online and pay only the prices in willing to pay for the items. Does this course show you how to order clothes online also? Does it help you pick where online to order? I admit, I'm still in the dark ages when it comes to ordering online. I need someone to hold my hand and tell me where and how to shop. Kelly and her team have lots of recommendations for brands and shops. You learn what to look for online when reviewing measurements, and you learn what to look for in person when you get your items. I only buy items I can return (and not pay shipping either way), and I am armed with my measuring tape in store and at home. I only keep what I love.

I totally agree! I have been shopping online sales, ThredUP and thrift stores. Been able to redo my wardrobe economically due to the guidelines I got in the AYW course. Can now shop with confidence. As an aside, thanks @keithurbanlovingpea, your original post made a major difference for me. Your selfies look fabulous. You must have been in team pink, as I haven’t seen these before. Thank you! Team Pink for sure! Are you in the alumni group? Are you going to do Course #2? I am Team Navy. Yes I am in the alumni group, and I also plan to do course #2. Am ready for tonight Facebook live event, I think that is when we find out how to sign up.

When you see someone that you think looks cute or pulled together, what are they wearing? What is it about your style that you gravitate to? What do you usually wear? Do you need a whole new wardrobe, or just a few new pieces and some accessories to make it fresh? How do your clothes fit? That is very important as well, as does dressing for the body you have now versus the one you had 20 years ago. To me, dressing younger doesn’t necessarily mean dressing like a 20 year old. It is more about dressing in a current fashion but that is also age appropriate. I’m almost 43. Until about 5-6 years ago I thought that a lot of the stores I shop at now were too young for Someone my age. I started paying attention to what other people were wearing and ventured into new stores. You can also find a lot of info on Pinterest and YouTube videos, for hair, makeup and clothes. I still get frustrated when I feel that despite certain products and techniques, I don’t always get the results I want. By I do feel much better about my appearance and am more confident than I was before.

keithurbanlovinpea That is a dramatic difference. Your sweater in the before photo was hiding your tiny waist! You look fabulous. donna Do you have a friend that would shop for you? Maybe she could pick up a few things in a couple of sizes for you to try on. I would do that for a friend. Also, Talbots has flat rate shipping of $8, if you wanted to try a few things. Your DH or son could return anything you don't want in the store (assuming you have one local). Talbots bi-stretch pants are super comfortable and hold their shape through the washer and dryer.

Does AYW or Get Your Pretty On address plus-size issues? I'm not only plus-size, I'm short, and I am almost in despair trying to find a) pants and b) warm weather bottoms like capri pants.
Adding to my despair is trying to figure out how to dress for hot weather in general...I feel like anyone can pull on pants, cardigan and statement necklace and have it look okay, but what do you do when it's so hot, even a statement necklace is a sweat collector?!
I feel like I've come a long way with my clothes, but pants and hot weather clothes are my last two big problems.

Kelly and her team provide shopping recommendations for brands and such that work with the various body types, and there are some plus size recommendations. GYPO, if you want to purchase items for the challenges and not shop your closet, provides shopping links with regular and plus sized ideas. My take... If you are already comfortable shopping for yourself and know how to find the right fit and balance, them gypo is fun and will refresh your wardrobe. If you struggle daily with what to wear, nothing feels or looks right (even when you buy trendy) you don't like to shop or don't know how, then ayw is for you.

I'm really liking the Get Your Pretty On style challenges for clothes. The Spring one just started (first day of outfits is tomorrow). It helps me because she gives us a list of clothes to buy, not specific items, but a general list, and then styles an outfit for each day throughout the challenge. Get Your Pretty OnAnother website very similar to this is Putting Me Together. I love Audrey's style and have been following her for a couple of years now. She also has seasonal style challenges, packing lists for traveling, and lots of links to shop. She has a very tasteful, modest style that is somewhat trendy, but also suitable for my 50 year old self! My DD17 even "borrows" some of my clothing these days, so I take that as a compliment and indicator that I am moving in a positive direction . I love Audrey's posts where she styles one article of clothing many different ways, like these two shirts that are staples in my closet now: Navy Gingham Buttondown Shirt and White Tunic Top

I'm 60 now and I feel exactly the same way.. I like my hair ok, the color is great (but the grays come in so fast!) I need new makeup & skin care & clothes. And accessories....I've never been good at putting those together. Thank you for all the links, I already feel a spending spree coming on. Pea's are the best girlfriends! kels99, I think I need to start with the white tunic & distressed jeans you linked at the end of your post. My nearly 30 y0 DD says Im ok to wear slightly distressed like that.

We are going on a couple of vacations within the next 8 weeks, and I'd be missing some of it. If I hold off and do the June one, we'll be around during the entire 8 weeks.

I did not know they were sister stores. Chico's pants always fit me well. And their travelers tanks are a winter staple for me under a jacket or cardigan. Lots of great color there.

I'm really liking the Get Your Pretty On style challenges for clothes. cmpeter kels99 Monica** Can you tell me more about Get Your Pretty On? It looks like you pay $29 or $39, depending on the challenge & they send you pictures of outfits? What is the challenge, to go & buy the stuff in the pictures? It sounds like there is a daily challenge. Is the shopping list specific to age or body type? TIA!

It sounds like there is a daily challenge. Is the shopping list specific to age or body type? TIA! You get a shopping "list" with links to specific examples. Then you pull the pieces together, either with existing wardrobe items or you buy. Then each day for 21 days there is an outfit formula using those items. The fun part is seeing what everyone else's take on the formula is via the Facebook group. The "challenge" is to get out of your comfort zone or rut and try something new. Be brave. Fashion is fun. It is important, though, that you stay true to yourself and your body shape and your age. Experimentation and alteration is encouraged and makes it more interesting. Let's say the list calls for white shorts and you haven't worn shorts since the Clinton administration. No problem sub in some white cropped pants, or a white skirt. If the list calls for a pair of wedge sandals in cognac and you don't wear heels, sub in some cognac flat sandals. Etc etc etc.

But, I find myself often returning things because they end up just not working out for me, although lately that's more because of quality not fit. I have a difficult body to fit. While not overweight I am petite at 5 foot 3 inches. I am short waisted and need a petite size on top, but my legs are long so I wear a normal pant size. I know my sizes, and my tastes but have trouble with style. I like classic clothes but have trouble putting an outfit together. What I'd really love is to be able to have a wardrobe where most things go with each other (like base it on neutrals) with pops of color. I know what I like and what I don't. Do you think this course could help me?

I have the same problem sometimes, as my weight fluctuates a lot, and I go through phases where I feel like I just look 'blah' after I get ready in the morning. I'm probably going to do something similar to go through my wardrobe (once I lose the weight, lol...) BUT- one thing I DO notice is that I feel a lot more 'put together' when I make sure I'm wearing jewelry and/or accessories. A ring, a necklace, earrings, a decorative scarf with a sweater or a plain t-shirt, etc. typically makes me feel better. Not sure if it's a real thing, or just a psychological thing in my head, but it does help me to feel better about how I look. eta: I think it's important as you change your clothing style that you find a look that you are comfortable in. I value my husband's opinion greatly, and for a special date night or something I might consider surprising him with clothes I'm not happy wearing just for him. But in general? Nah. ^^^ I agree with this. If I wore clothing in a style that my boyfriend liked, I'd be dressing like it was 1985, lol! (he still wishes parachute pants were in fashion... ) But if I'm wearing something that I really like, is comfortable to me, and it looks good on me, I will FEEL confident, and confidence goes a long way towards being 'attractive' to other people-- it has to do as much with confidence as with what you're actually wearing, I think. I'm going on 49 years old, by the way- I think confidence is one of those things that you realize is important more as you age, maybe?? (at least that's my opinion.) eta: also, I personally have a collection of quirky / vintage jewelry (mostly brooches) and scarves that I've gotten from estate sales, tag sales, thrift stores, etc... wearing something from one of these collections is always a good way to make me feel good!! (they might not be in style / trendy, but they do make me HAPPY so I feel better overall.)

I have a friend that said once "Oh, you are so dressed up". Well, it takes no more effort to put on a pretty cardigan than a gray hoodie. It's just making that choice.

You get a list of clothing items with suggested links to purchase. You are also encouraged to shop your closet and make substitutions as needed.
You also get a daily calendar of outfits. Every evening a reminder email goes out with the outfit for the next day. There is a private Facebook group for the challenge (we are doing Spring 2018 right now) and folks post pictures of their outfits of the day, talk about substitutions they made, where they bought the item, ask for feedback if they are unsure how something looks, etc.)
We are on day 3. This challenge actually runs 30 days (March 26-Apr 25). At the end the whole group repeats the daily calendar posting photos again. It gives you a change to re-style something or try something new that you saw another participant style.
Here are my pictures from the Spring challenge so far...excuse the bad selfie skills...I'm still trying to master that. I participated in the Winter 2017 challenge, but mainly lurked and didn't post many pictures. I'm trying to be more involved this go around.

The course gives you practical information based on your measurements and body type, so you can find the clothes that look good on you personally. You keep your unique style, you just learn how to shop for pieces (including shapewear and bras) that fit and flatter. Kelly is all about students finding pieces that they love and curating a wardrobe they adore, whether that's 10 items or 300. I've learned that for my body type, dark pants work best, which works great for me because I can mix and match easily. I've honed my closet down to 3 pairs of work pants and about 8 blouses, plus tons of accessories. This works for me, and it's a snap to get dressed every day. I also now shop with purpose and know exactly what I need to buy and how it should fit and look.

I go through this sometimes. I watch YouTube tutorials and shop for new pieces to add to my wardrobe. Sometimes, just changing your hair style or the way you apply eyeliner makes a big difference. I need some new summer clothes to take on vacation and am thinking of a new hair color myself. I am bad about keeping my clothes forever and not updating.

My DH was complaining about the price but I did some comparison's and it wasn't much different than what I would pay in a brick and mortar. plus, you're saving the time (and the gas, etc.) it would have taken you to drive to the store, try things on, and maybe find one or two things you wanted. This way the clothes come to you, and you can use the time you WOULD have spent shopping doing something else! My last piece of advice is completely contrary to the previous one.... try on some things you think you won't like at all! Maybe just one thing at each store or time you go shopping. Sometimes it's surprising what does actually work, and then you've found something new to change up your wardrobe a bit. this IS true, too- one of the dresses I bought that I really love (clearance rack at Kohls, I think) was something that didn't look like much on the hanger, at all... but I tried it on anyway, and I loved the way it looked on me. So don't be fooled by the way things look on the rack; you have to try them on to see what they look like on YOU. I also run into the problem of clothing trends that aren't 'me' too; like the 'flowy' peasant-style tops that are so popular right now, or 'romantic-looking' blouses with ruffles at the chest- they make my boobs look HUGE, and make me look shapeless (or pregnant). So I don't buy ANY of them, no matter how much I might like the color or the patterns. I'm curvy and have a small waist, so I tend to buy things that accentuate that-- things that are more fitted. ETA: it's probably already been said, but if you wear something that's too big, it doesn't make you look 'smaller' inside of it, it just hides your shape. (my boyfriend, for some reason, doesn't get this idea...) So make sure you have clothes that FIT you well, also. If it's a well-made piece of clothing, tailoring it is also an option- I have a couple skirts that I've gotten tailored to bring in the waist so it didn't gap), and it only cost me $10-15 each. For them to look better so that I'll wear them more often, it's worth the price of the tailoring for me.
