Has anyone here tried the Costco sheet cakes? If so, are they good? I'm thinking of ordering one for a party but wanted to get some reviews on them first. I was shocked at the price... only $18.99 for a half sheet cake that feeds up to 48 people! Can't beat that! Just wanted to make sure they taste good too.

They are as tasty as any grocery store cake that I have had, maybe even better.

They're really good for the price. We used them to supplement our wedding cake, no one even knew!

I personally have never tried them but for those people that I know who have they rave about them!

Yes, they’re really good. We ordered a bunch of the Costco cupcakes for our anniversary party several years ago and they were awesome. In hindsight we should have just ordered a cake because the cupcakes are too big for most people to eat a whole one and we could have cut the cake into smaller pieces. We ended up freezing all the leftover cupcakes and then individually wrapping them in plastic wrap. They were still tasty as much as 14 months later when we finally ate the last ones out of the freezer!

They are way better than any grocery store cake around here! Very rich and for us feeds more than 48 when taking kids into account.

Very, very good. We usually have way too much leftover, so guests get to take some home. it's a Win-Win in my opinion!

Yes, very good! They are much better than the local grocery store cakes and even some bakery cakes and for less money. The decor is kind of hokey though unless you stick to classical roses.

They are the birthday cake of choice in this house. Be sure to get the pudding filling. The cake is unbelievably moist and the chocolate is just as good as the vanilla. And the cake freezes well, even with the pudding.

I'll be the lone dissenter. My SIL had one at her wedding and it was pretty good, but our local grocery store (HEB) I think the cake itself is better. Of course, HEB doesn't use the delicious artery clogging icing so depends on which is more important to you. And not as good as a good bakery. Maybe it was just an off day for them.

As far as a grocery store cake goes, they’re okay ... but I find all grocery store cakes are kinda yuck ... a homemade from scratch chocolate cake with icing that isn’t that weird grocery store gunk doesn’t take that long to make, and is worth the cost of ingredients, imo... but you didn’t ask that, so I’ll just stick with “if you are buying a cake, Costco is your best bet” 😉

I've never had their sheet cakes but they make this gigantic chocolate round cake with chocolate pieces on the outside that is so good I've often considered driving the 75 miles and getting a Costco membership for. We had a Costco where we lived before and my family loved that cake. We now live over an hour away from a Costco, but there are days I would drive for it.

They’re fine. For a kid birthday party or similar event, I’d get one. For a nicer function, I’d go elsewhere.

Costco cakes are better than our local BJ sheet cakes. They are priced the same.

They’re fine. For a kid birthday party or similar event, I’d get one. For a nicer function, I’d go elsewhere. This is how I feel as well. They are fine for a large event, but we prefer Safeway's sheet cake with whipped cream frosting and fresh strawberries to Costco cakes.

They are as good as any of the grocery store cakes around here.
I will add--when I order a cake, I always ask for the whipped cream icing/frosting. It is not as heavy and greasy as the traditional frosting and I like it. The other frosting--I scrape if off the cake and don't eat it.
Cupcakes: I find that bakeries put on much, much too much frosting. If I bite the cupcake, then I have frosting up to my nose. It is another case of: scrape off the frosting and then eat.

Great for grocery store cake. Side note: if you pull a cake decorator to the side and ask, in my experience, they let you request a custom design not displayed. I even had them add a custom edible image from etsy once.

Yep, they are pretty good, especially for the price. Even though they are inexpensive, they are better than most other grocery store cakes.

I disagree, it’s your technique that’s off. The trick is to take the wrapper off, pull off the bottom half of the cupcake cake and put it on top of the frosting to make a sandwich. Then eat. No more frosting up the nose.
