I am turning 50 this week. My hair has been going grey the past few years. Not all over, just spotty areas. My natural colour used to be chestnut brown. I was letting it go grey naturally and just not liking it. I went to my hairdresser and asked him to blend the incoming grey and my natural chestnut so it looked nicer. He added some blonde and some silver. I am loving the colour. It still looks natural but a much nicer transition to lighter hair for me

... Can I ask what kind of conditioner you are using? I've tried a few different ones and haven't found any that really do much. I use cleansing conditioner from Renpure, and finish with a light spray leave-in coconut water. But it's the blow dry that does the trick and tames the frizz. I use a hot air brush that looks like a giant curling iron. I'm better at working with that than I am with a blow dryer and brush.

I'm 46 and haven't colored my hair since July of last year - I LOVE the way the grey is coming in, and I think my hair will be fully transitioned by the end of the summer. I have no regrets so far - I just love it.
I also will politely suggest that we might believe dying our hair makes us look younger than it actually does. Maybe from a distance LOL, but up close I don't really think it's fooling anyonw. I actually think it gets to a point where the obviously dyed hair against aging skin is actually more aging. I'm in several "going gray" facebook groups and in almost all cases, it seems your natural color is actually the most flattering - I mean, it can't be the *wrong* color for you since it's naturally sprouting from your head ;-)

Absolutely NO regrets
I'm 53 and let my hair go gray last year. I also have gained some weight back. I get more compliments now on my hair and how I rock it than any time I colored. I colored for 30 years, all different colors.
It's a little more upkeep than I thought it would be. I have curly, coarse hair. I use baking soda and apple cider vinegar 2-3 times a week to brighten it up. I use a sulfate free hydrating conditioner every day and shampoo 2 times a week. I use a deep conditioner for blond hair (to brighten it) every week or two. I believe it is in the best condition it's ever been without the color.
And I have LOVED changing up my makeup and clothes to reflect the change...maybe try something like that? I know my makeup for brunette with red highlights looked garish when I went gray.
Every time I'm in the drug store, I look at the hair color and decide I'm way too lazy for all that anymore.

When I was in my 40s, my hair turned very gray at the crown, but the rest was dark - I saw a picture of myself from behind and it looked like I had a huge bald spot. Because of that I started coloring my hair. I am 60 and still coloring, but am considering going gray - I am assuming my hair would now be fairly gray all over.
My younger sister has very striking shoulder length gray hair and she gets lots of compliments on it, but everybody always thinks she is older than I am.
I do in general think gray is aging, but I am currently spending a lot of time and money on color/highlights/lowlights and really need a root touch up every 4 weeks, so I am considering going gray. DH does not really want me to, but he will be okay with whatever I choose.

I'm 57 and have had gray hair coming in for about the last 10 years. I've been coloring my hair since then and have been doing it at home with box color. Would I go gray? Funny you should ask that. I was seriously considering it about 2 weeks ago because I was getting so tired of coloring my hair. My hair grows so fast-like bamboo. Hair color is supposed to last 4-6 weeks but with me within 2-3 weeks I've got gray hair coming in already at my part line. It's so frustrating! I like my hair colored and the gray that is coming in is very silver-like my Mom's so I was considering maybe I'd take the jump. I noticed that one of my favorite author's had just come out with a book about going gray-it's called "Silver Hair-Say Good-bye to the Dye and let your natural light shine" by Lorraine Massey so I checked it out from my local library. It's a great book showing lots of women going through the process of going from colored hair to completely gray. By the time I got to reading it though I'd changed my mind and decided to keep coloring my hair for now. I like the way it looks colored. Mine is medium brown with a bit of gold in it-like it was when I was a child.
Regarding caring for the changes in texture of gray hair or changes in our hair after menopause-when it turns frizzy or curly. My hair changed from completely straight to very wavy/curly after menopause. Frizzy hair is nothing more than hair begging for moisture. Blow drying it and even worse flat ironing it is damaging it even further and taking out what little bit of moisture it has. Lorraine Massey (the same author above) wrote another book called "Curly Girl:The Handbook" that started a whole movement that is called the CG movement to change how curly girls take care of their hair and it works. Basically you stop using shampoos with sulfates and conditioners with silicones. Silicones coat each hair shaft like plastic so the good stuff in conditioners can't get in. It may look shiny at first but it's actually damaging. That's why so many of us keep looking and switching to find a good shampoo/conditioner. Heat is the enemy. If you must use a blow dryer use one with a diffuser on a low setting. Better yet air dry your hair. Before you start you have to get the silicones out of your hair so wash with Johnson's baby shampoo and follow up with a great deep conditioner. I use Jessicurl Deep Treatment. The shampoo and Conditioner line I use is Raw Hair Organics. There is a facebook group that has a ton of information about this called Curly Girls! Support Group for Curly/Wavy/Natural Healthy Hair.
