Has anyone created an album based on stories from grandparents or other family members? I like the idea of both the weekly questions Family Search has, or Storyworth (subscription service where they email the questions each week and then bind them in a book - but you can see many of the questions on their website) but am thinking I'll do it myself so that I can customize.
The idea behind both is that once a week you email a prompt question and the family remember then replies, and then all their answers are collected in a book. It sounds like an amazing gift for a child, at least if they grow up to be interested in family history.
Haven't looked into the tech in detail, but I'm sure with boomerang or some other gmail extension I can set up the emails a few weeks at a time to go out to all four grandparents.
And I'm starting with answering some of the appropriate questions myself!
Initial thoughts are to collect in an 8x8 ring album - I could print the email responses as we get them and then later pair them with photos if we have. (Maybe do digital Project Life pages and print 8x8?) Maybe a different color background cardstock for each grandparent, with all the answers grouped by categories, thinking modified Stacy Julian Library of Memories style? The idea is that it could be totally flexible if they all didn't answer each question, and we could enjoy it as it grows.
Thoughts?

I think it's an awesome idea. I would love to have something like that from my grandparents but alas, they are all deceased. If I were doing it, I think I would do it 8-1/2 x 11 so the pages would be easy to copy if later someone wanted to do that.

I have not, but I do include emails, cards and letters in my scrapbooks so whatever they send is saved.

I love the idea but my mum (81) is the only grandparent left (well, DH's grandmother is also still alive at 100 but she's well past remembering anything ) I do know that my mum is in some sort of writing club and she writes about old memories for that. She hasn't shared them with me but presumably I'll get to see them eventually.

Thanks for the thoughts! It's a really good point that 8.5 x 11 would be easier to copy; I was just thinking 8 x 8 was easier for little hands, and that way I could print individual PL pages as that's a super easy way to do collages of old photos on my phone.
Also a great suggestion to include cards and emails; currently those tend to be scrapped with the holidays (ie, birthday) but they'd be great here too. And I bet I could do screenshots from video chats!
I know we're lucky to still have four active grandparents, which is one reason I want to capture their stories now!

I think this is a wonderful idea. I remember by Mum bought a grandparent's remember book for her in-laws to fill out but when we packed up their house we discovered they had never written in it. I so wish I had some of those things recorded.

I think it's a great idea, a few years back I sat with my Dad and kept notes of the stories he told about the photos from his youth. He was the oldest living member of his family and I wanted to make sure I knew who was in pictures he so carefully restored and why the photos meant so much to him. I then made a small family heritage album with Pop's stories listed, scanned it and gave a copy to him and each of each of my siblings. He is gone now and that album is a still treasure to me as I can almost hear his voice and feel his smile when I read the words!! So glad I took the time to talk and record his thoughts!!
But don't be surprised if some of the family looks at it, but doesn't get it!! I was a bit taken back by that...

I so wish I had some of those things recorded. Me too..found empty book. If you want this, you'll probably need to interview them. Fortunately, I begin scrapbooking before my mom died and asked her some questions by mail. I have several interesting long letters from her about things that happened to her and family members that I would have never known about if I had not asked a question. I also interviewed an elderly great aunt about her family, too. She was 1 of 14 siblings. I inherited pics of them and took them to her and she told me stories all day.
