I have a pack of Autumn Leaves stamps, bought many many years ago, that I never used. I took them out today and one side is stuck fast to the plastic sheeting from the original packaging. The stamping face is fine. It's the flat face that would adhere to the block or stamping platform that's stuck.
Is there a trick any of you know of to safely unstick these stamps from the plastic sheeting?

A couple of things I might try. Put them in the freezer for a bit? Since you said the actual stamping surface was ok, could you cut around the plastic that they are stuck to and then use double sided tape to apply to a block or platform?
I had some very early, 1st gen clear stamps that I got from Target that were like this. I had to toss them out.

You have always been a part of the heist. You're only mad now because you don't like your cut.

Ugh. I had that happen with some Autumn Leaves stamps too! I'm going to try the freezer idea.

You could also try Un-Du, but I'm not sure that will work.

You could also try Un-Du, but I'm not sure that will work. I thought about that, but I'm worried it will degrade the stamp and turn it into goop. I thought about baby oil too, but I just don't know what these things are made from. I know not to use oil on latex, but what are these things made from? I'm going to try the freezer method. Thanks everyone!

With wood stamps, microwaving for a very short time (less than a minute) helped release the rubber stamp from the block, but it was an adhesive that softened with heat, so I don't know if that would work with the clear stamps.
Let us know if the freezer works.

I don't know whether it helped or not. I was able to carefully pry them off the sheet, but it still took forever. I was so afraid I was going to rip them. The plastic sheet with the printing is a curled up mess now though.

I have an old Amy Tangerine stamp set this happened to. Some of the stamps ripped trying to get them off the plastic backing. I’m guessing they were silicone since they are so flimsy. The photopolymer stamps seem less thin and squishy.

I wish I’d known about the Dawn when I was having these same issues. I might have been able to save some of the stamps I ended up dumping. Maybe not though since the a good many of them had become a gummy mess. scrappyesq, mine were Autumn Leaves as well, along with Technique Tuesday. I had a friend who had the same issues with these brands, but I think most clear stamps were like that back then. Thank goodness the newer stamps are better made.

I don't think I have had any become a gummy mess, but I appreciate woodysbetty telling us about the Dawn trick. I have some Autumn Leaves stamps that have sat for awhile. I should probably check them. Or at least put a post it note with them that if I have trouble removing them to put them in water with Dawn. I've been too busy with our family wedding to craft much lately, but now that it's over, after I get all the wedding decorations put away, I will probably have a minute to see what state they are in.
Some stamps, not all Autumn Leaves brand, were hard to get off the plastic sheet from the time that I bought them, just after they were released for sale. I'm sure they are no better now, and possibly worse.
I have a big stamp collection. I am using my stamps so much more now that I have a stamp platform. I may even get around to using the stamps I avoided using because they were so hard to get off their backing.
