DH and I have been married almost 24 years. He proposed to me in my mom and dad's house where my mom, dad and I had been living for about 2 years.
It wasn't a fancy, romantic proposal. He knew we were leaving that weekend to go see family for Thanksgiving. My parents weren't home, he called me into the other room and there he was, down on one knee. We were 18 and got married when we were 19. He told me he wanted to do something special but that he knew I would want to tell my grandmother in person and I didn't get to see her very often. I couldn't have been happier.
After all these years, I love him more every day. He's so kind, loving and patient. He is my best friend, my sounding board and my rock.
Seeing that they are tearing that house down (mom and dad built another house a few years after we got married) just brought a flood of memories back and effected me more than I thought it would.
Thanks for listening!

Awww - I know how that feels. Do you have pictures of it before the tear-down? Can you take some? Or someone else take them for you?
What a lovely marriage and husband you have.

I completely understand. Due to a bunch of things going wrong when DH wanted to propose, the poor guy wound up giving up on his fancy plans and he proposed in his parents' backyard instead. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Fast forward 20 years and that house is now plagued by a whole lot of issues, but it sits on a very nice lot. DH & I have already been trying to brace ourselves for the day when someone tears it down. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

I'm sad for you. I get really sentimental about things and places.

If you don't manage to get pictures save the one from google maps. It's better than nothing at all.

Oh that’s really hard. I am sorry.
My MIL sold the house that my DH grew up in around 16 years ago and about 13 years, it was torn down because it was rezoned for commercial use and the new owner sold the land to build a Turkey Hill.
It’s sad that we can’t even drive by to show my sons.

That stinks. The restaurant DH proposed in is gone. It's become really cheap and gross apartments. Makes me sad whenever I think about how cool it would have been to go for anniversary dinners.

We had gone back to live in my childhood home ( only home I ever knew- came to Australia aged 2) so we could save for our own home. When we moved out I knew once Mum sold it, it would be demolished to put 2 houses on the block. I absolutely love those random photos I took - my mums rose bush, the pawprint of our childhood dog in our cement driveway! Pictures of the wooden floorboards, original terrazzo bathroom floor, the skateboard track next door. My favourite- one day when I was driving down our street I remembered by best friend and I running down the road, trying to outrun the clouds covering the sun. I got my camera and took a beautiful late afternoon shot of the street. Enlarged it and put in my scrapbook- still makes me happy. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) If you cant make it to the house to take some picture google search it. I made a scrapbook of all the places I lived in during my 20's. I did have a lovely day driving around but also got some pictures from Google of ones I couldn't photograph- (gates locked etc) Corinne

Can you run out and grab a board or a brick or something? A little token that you can do something creative with?
