“Do not buy or eat romaine lettuce at a grocery store or restaurant unless you can confirm it is not from the Yuma, Arizona, growing region,” the agency warned, going on to state that, “Unless the source of the product is known, consumers anywhere in the United States who have any store-bought romaine lettuce at home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick.” If you have chopped lettuce in your refrigerator and you are not sure if it is romaine, you should still throw it away, the CDC says. The expanded warning is based on information from newly reported illnesses in Alaska, who reported eating lettuce from whole heads of romaine lettuce from the Yuma, Arizona growing region. At least 53 people in 16 states have gotten sick from eating contaminated lettuce since March 31, and 31 of them were hospitalized for illnesses linked to the lettuce. Five of them developed a type of potentially life-threatening kidney failure. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/romaine-recall-expands-16-states-know-dirty-lettuce-161504112.html

I was sick for two days with severe diarrhea a couple of weeks ago. I often eat Caesar salads in restaurants. Now i wonder if it was related to that. Thanks for the info.

I tossed a new head of romaine into the trash tonight. Just wasn't worth the risk.

I went to the grocery store tonight, and pretty much all the lettuce was off the shelves. It was strange.

I saw this on CNN this morning and I am glad that I did because romaine is one of the ingredients in my daily green juice drink. I was going to run to the store to buy all the ingredients first thing this morning. Fortunately, I read on line a bit first while having my coffee. I decided to have a powdered mix smoothie instead

We feed it to the fowl.
We rarely eat lettuce. It plugs me up.

I recently brought DD some. She hasn't ate any yet. Her bunny did. Are critters just as susceptible, does anybody know? I know, google, but I prefer first hand pea reference. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

Good to know, thanks! Romaine is what I usually buy.
We were at a casino buffet tonight and they had a sign up at the salad bar saying there would be no Romaine, but didn’t state why. Now I know.

And they eat their poop, dog poop and whatever else is disgusting.

I had eColi in my blood one time and it is NOT fun. Although, I got it from a bad gall bladder that had to come out.

My thinking was similar to yours in that some animals animals eat all kinds of sh!t (literally and figuratively) that could kill us. or wish it did.

A Cesar salad was served last night as part of the food offerings at DH's company gathering. I had vaguely remembered the news stories about the outbreak and passed on it.
We have to go to a farmer's market this weekend. I'll have to see if they have any.

Earlier this week I returned a packaged lettuce blend to the store because it contained romaine. The produce area is right next to customer service, and they had the exact same lettuce still on the shelf. But they did give me my money back with no problems.
