Last year about this time we were out or almost out. This year we have about $1400 left. DH needs glasses and contacts and we have a couple meds left for the year. We have met our deductible, so only co-pays apply. Due to recent health issues, I could need outpatient surgery to remove the nodules which would be $100 copay, or if I had to be admitted, it would be $300. How would you spend the rest? - 2nd pair of glasses for both DH and I -try and stock up on whatever meds they let us - ? ETA: we both reset July 1st

I used what was left in ours to get an extra pair of glasses, prescription sunglasses, first aid kits for my car and for camping, extra bandaids in assorted sizes, contact lens solution, and a blood pressure monitor.

I was in the same boat at the end of 2017. In addition to an RX pair of sunglasses, I got several first aid kits and gave them away as Christmas gifts. I also picked up a heating pad. Sadly, my plan doesn't cover most OTC meds which is frustrating.

I'd be buying the best glasses I can get and stock up on my contacts. I really need new glasses. My prescription is pretty strong so to avoid the coke glasses look, I'd get the thinnest lenses possible. My eyes are fairly sensitive to bright light so I'd either get transition lenses or prescription sunglasses. I can spend $500 on glasses easily, even if I get cheaper frames.

If it were me I would use it for lasik eye surgery, mole removal, or a breast reduction. Oh how I miss the days where my insurance deductible wasn't 8k and I wasn’t afraid to use my health insurance on things that weren’t life threatening. Jen

I've always bought contacts with any leftover money. My prescription hasn't changed in ten years though so it seems safe.

Sunscreen counts if it's SPF 30 or above. Also denture tabs which you can use to clean your toilet

My deductible is super high so I like to be prepared. I just save mine if I have extra in my HSA. Do you lose yours if you don't use it?

An FSA doesn't work exactly the way an HSA does - if you don't spend it you lose it. With an HSA, you can continue to build up your balance. Not all companies offer HSA accounts; some only offer FSA.

Glasses Sunglasses Contacts Any dental work that’s needed Basically anything you can.
The first year we had FSA we lost like $1000 because no one told us it didn’t roll over. We now have limited FSA which is dental and vision, we used it all for dental this year but going forward we will make sure everyone is outfitted with glasses and contacts before the end of the year.

I prepaid the orthodontist one year. I knew the work would be coming, but we didn't have a plan in place when I needed to use the money. They just let me pay them and carry a credit until the work was required.
Maybe you could do something similar with a dentist or orthodontist.

Our deductible is $250 per person or $750 for the family
