I'm not loving it I have to say. Also slightly surprised given that Louis is one of George's middle names, but they evidently like it which is what matters!
One of my colleagues had put money on it being Louis at 8-1 - so it wasn't way out there.

Presumably pronounced Loo-ee and not Lewis. Prince Charles will be delighted considering the Earl of Mountbatten connection. I'm glad Charles is in there too, a nod to Granddad and Great Uncle Spencer.

I'm not a fan, but it's not my kid, ha! I'm surprised, too, that they used one of George's middle names as a first name.

I kinda like that it's not Albert . I'm sure he'll be adorable like the other two and his name will suit him well.

I don't like it either. I know there is something about the name Spencer but I thought that would be a beautiful tribute to Diana. Screw tradition.

In my family it's not uncommon for an older sibling's middle name to be used later as a first name, so I am surprised that so many find it strange. It's one of those things where parents really like 2 names, but don't know if they'll have another child of that gender, so they use both for the first child. But middle names are rarely even mentioned, so when the next child of the same gender comes along, the parents are happy to get to use the name they really liked for a first name after all.

Same here. My younger sister has my middle name as a first name, and I have a sister and brother with the female and male version of the same name as their middle names - it is my granpa's first name. And when you use so many names per kid, as the royal family does, you are going to run short on appropriate choices.

Not that it matters, but I don't care for it. (And I really don't care for it when I think about how press, etc. always shortens/nicknames...Prince Lou? Nope.)

I think it is far more likely that Prince Harry would use Spencer as a name for one of his children. They are far enough from the line of succession for it not to matter so much.

I like it too. And I also think it 'fits' with the names they have given their older children, if that makes sense. All classic, royal names with tradition behind them. It would have seemed odd to me if they had chosen a very modern name after the first 2 have older names.

I agree, it doesn't strike me as a very 'English' given name.

So the Americanized version of their names would be- Bill and Cathy, George, Char (or Charlie), and Lou.
