The Hill.... “Top insurance official predicts massive ObamaCare premium increases due to GOP repeal of mandate hill.cm/oKdsAV8” I understand old Mitch is thinking of keeping the Senate in session to come up with a bill flat out repealing the ACA. If that happens and the House goes along and the ACA is repealed there will be chaos in the health care insurance world. So if this comes to pass, buckle up. Can’t fucking wait to not have health insurance next year! Should be amazing with 4 little kids in the house.

Both DH and I are over 50 this year and he has some pre-existing conditions, so I expect our premiums to skyrocket. We’re self employed and get our insurance through the exchange so it will definitely not be fun for us either.

My adult children haven't had health insurance in years! However, if you have a baby? You're in! You get some kind of State healthcare (at least the children do & you do while you're pregnant + you get gov't aid $$). I really do hope & pray that FL won't be the example for the rest of the Country. I know that 45 is friends with Pam Biondi (coverup queen of Trump 'university' in FL) & friends with the worst Governor here (Rick Scott), who is more than happy to have our waters continue to be tainted and our air be polluted for the good of wealthy friends of Trump!

Is there a type of vision affliction (similar to red/green color-blindness) where the person can only see in Black and White rather than shades of gray? I think that's what Trump has.

Yesterday, when the new NFL rule about kneeling came out I basically said it was a dumb idea.
A couple peas posted regardless of what we thought, the players were employees of the owners and as such they could dictate what they did and didn’t want their employees to do. I thought true but something about this idea was wrong and it was going to make kneeling during the National Anthem a bigger deal then it needed to be.
Today I learned of the West Virginia School Board v Barnette Supreme Court ruling from 75 years ago. The ruling stopped schools from “forcing” the students to salute the American Flag and saying the Pledge Of Allegiance in the schools.
From the ruling...
“To believe that patriotism will not flourish if patriotic ceremonies are voluntary and spontaneous, instead of a compulsory routine, is to make an unflattering estimate of the appeal of our institutions to free minds. We can have intellectual individualism [p642] and the rich cultural diversities that we owe to exceptional minds only at the price of occasional eccentricity and abnormal attitudes. When they are so harmless to others or to the State as those we deal with here, the price is not too great. But freedom to differ is not limited to things that do not matter much. That would be a mere shadow of freedom. The test of its substance is the right to differ as to things that touch the heart of the existing order.
If there is any fixed star in our constitutional constellation, it is that no official, high or petty, can prescribe what shall be orthodox in politics, nationalism, religion, or other matters of opinion, or force citizens to confess by word or act their faith therein. If there are any circumstances which permit an exception, they do not now occur to us. [n19]
We think the action of the local authorities in compelling the flag salute and pledge transcends constitutional limitations on their power, and invades the sphere of intellect and spirit which it is the purpose of the First Amendment to our Constitution to reserve from all official control.”
Just switch out authorities for employers.
This why it’s a bad rule. And while I’m retired, I’m pretty sure my past employers would not have gotten their panties in a wad because I chose not to stand during the National Anthem during a company sponsored function.

But not when it comes to showing your patriotism. If anyone starts to dictate how we must show our patriotism in this country then IMO we have lost a basic freedom. Some people may not like the fact that a bunch of black football players kneel during the National Anthem. Or they may not understand why they are doing it. But they should at least celebrate we have the freedom to do so . Or could until recently.
