DH just told me they are having a college graduation party today for neighbor across the street. We've only just waved to her from time to time, "hi, how are you" type of contact. We do chit chat with her parents fairly frequently, always outside.
The mom is my cat sitter. The dad has done a couple plumbing things for us, and has mostly only charged for parts. He is supposed to help DH pull out a couple big shrubs tomorrow. We did not buy anything for other two kids when they graduated.
Opinions and gift ideas, please. I feel like I should get just a little something, but no idea what. We know nothing about her, other than she is a communications/journalism graduate and will be moving out of state to continue education. I don't want to be cheap, but don't feel the need to be extravagant.
Sorry.... I know there have been a lot of posts.

Are you invited to the party? If so, I would get a gift card to Target for supplies of whatever kind they choose when they go away to school. If not, I wouldn't get her anything for that type of relationship.

If you were invited to the party prior to walking outside and seeing it going on today, cash.
If you are just seeing the decorations or they invited your DH because they happened to run into him outside while they were decorating, have other plans.

Were you actually invited to the party or did the neighbor casually mention to your DH what was happening? If I see one of our neighbors before we have a big party, I'll give them a warning that it might be a little noisier than usual and parking a problem. If it's an open house, I'll invite them to stop by but I would have ZERO expectation that they bring a gift. I don't know if I'd get anything more than a card in this situation.

I would do my standard check in the amount to match the year, so this year, grads will get a check for $20.18.

If you were not invited, nothing. If invited last-minute only because your husband saw the neighbors, probably still nothing since you didn't get gifts for their other two children.
If you feel like you have to go, cash, maybe $20.

If you were invited, cash. $25 would be the standard for that relationship where I live. If you were not invited, nothing.

In this case I don’t think it matters if they were invited to the party or not. According to the post, the girls father has occasionally done favors for them so it is an appropriate time to reciprocate. I would do cash or a gift card.

Well, turns out I was worried for nothing. Neighbors were actually leaving to set up for party yesterday. They had not invited us. Thanks for the great suggestions. I picked up a small iTunes g.c. for driving music since she will be moving 2000 miles away.
