Though I love my word dies from my favorite stamp companies, like the scripty words from Lawn Fawn, I have a Cameo and would love to use it to cut words or phrases for my cards. I'm having a hard time finding fonts that aren't too scripty - like having thin pieces that are difficult to cleanly remove from the mat and/or adhere to my card. Does anyone have any favorite fonts or cut files they use for card making?

I typically don't use my Silhouette or Cricut for card making. Not sure why, because that's one of the reasons I have them. It's easier to just crank out a sentiment.
If you've got a lot of time to waste check DaFont or 1001 Fonts. If you don't have a lot of time to waste, on DaFont I recently downloaded Hoodsen and Kitten. They're in the Script section, Old School.

I have successfully removed some pretty detailed stuff from my Silhouette mats without tearing, but you need to either get the light hold mat or use an older mat or remove some of the tackiness from a new mat to do it. Just slow your speed, make sure your blade is good, and use the spatula to remove the cut. The Cricut spatula actually has worked much better for me than the Silhouette one because it's thinner and slides under stuff better.
Another option is to cut your sentiments from vinyl instead of cardstock. Vinyl is so much more forgiving when you are moving a thin cut from the mat to a project. The first time I cut a super-thin font with vinyl and it removed perfectly, I was very impressed. If you aren't familiar with using vinyl, be sure to get some transfer tape too. I hated vinyl for the longest time, because I was trying to move my cuts with press n seal to save money, as several bloggers recommended.
I know the Silhouette software will allow for use of any font on your computer, but I do love the fonts from their store and try to catch them on sale. The ones they design always cut really well for me. If you search the online store for scripty words, you will find several options as well. Another trick is to thicken the font by doing an offset once you get your words laid out like you want them. Sometimes thickening them slightly makes it easier.

I bought an svg sentiment to cut and it was such a pain-and it wasn't all that scripty/thin. I am guessing it's not something I can cut with adhesive already on the back but adding adhesive to a skinny sentiment just about put me over the edge. I decided words (unless they're very chunky) are something that I really prefer to die cut with actual dies.
As for fonts, follow these on facebook. They offer free fonts weekly. Hungry Jpeg and fontbundles. Fontbundles also has $1 sales from time to time. I usually have some funds in paypal so I get ones that I think I can use.

If you have a Cameo, then you can use the offset feature to thicken fonts that are too thin. You can thicken them as much or as little as you want.
While I use my Cameo to make cards, most of the time I am using my stamps for the words and phrases.
I love fonts, have a huge collection, and have trouble choosing a favorite. I just type what I want in my Silhouette software, and with it selected, I scroll through the fonts till I find one I want to use.

I use my Cameo a bit for cardmaking - not as much as I should though! Will see if I can find some examples of sentiments but like scrapnnana says, you can work around a font that’s too skinny, I usually like to go with a reasonably bold/large sentiment if I’m using my Cameo.

I do use my Cameo for card making but mostly at Christmas. When I have 50+ of the same design it’s a whole lot easier to cut images and fonts with it rather than run a die through my Vagabond that many times. On the other hand, if I’m making a single card, do I really want to pull out my Cameo for a single cut? Not really unless it’s a design/font I have to use. I find that you have to be patient when lifting the design off the mat and I also prefer my Cricut spatula.

Thank you all for the helpful tips! I didn't know about the offset feature, and now I need a Cricut spatula

On both my Cricut Explore and my Silhoette Portrait, I use the Pacifico font a lot. It's scripty and cuts without tearing. I don't have any problems taking the words off the mat either. I think I downloaded it at Dafont.com, but I'm not sure about that.

I've been admiring those uneven circles with the sentiment inside, so here is what I did- I love that! You've inspired me to cut out a whole bunch of different designs to create my own stack of die cuts. I also found a font I love, I'm going to use it for titles on my scrapbook pages tomorrow - from DaFont, it's called Beautiful Holiday. It reminds me of the font on a lot of the MFT stamps. SaveSave

Thanks, margI really like that Beautiful Holiday font. I like how it's scripty without being too fussy.

Thanks, marg I really like that Beautiful Holiday font. I like how it's scripty without being too fussy. I cut it out on my Silhouette last night and it cuts beautifully (and welded so easily, too)! I didn't have to use the offset feature, either. SaveSave
