DH is considering trading in his car for a newer one and stopped at a dealership after work to look at a car he's interested in. The dealer pulled a CarFax on DH's car and it is FULL of wrong information. Along with quite a few service records that never happened, there is one entry with a way wrong odometer reading.
We're thinking the service center we use must have put in an incorrect VIN# at one point and now CarFax has another car's stats on our report.
Of course, the people at the dealership today made it pretty obvious that they think DH monkeyed with the odometer which has DH kind of pissed.
Anyway, if any of you have ever dealt with a messed up CarFax, were you able to get it corrected and if so, what did that involve?
TIA

DH says yes its possible they got it mixed up but good luck getting it fixed. He says 1) it will take forever to get it corrected and 2) it won't be cheap.
He says you would have to go get all of your old inspections pulled, all records of work done, etc. He says easily 6 months worth of leg work.

I tried. I succeeded at getting them to change the number of owners including us to 2 vs 3. I was not successful in getting them to change that it had been in an accident. Several years ago someone claimed my DH rear ended them. He did not. Long story short, the police report was messed up. Even though there were photos that clearly showed no damage, we couldn’t get them to budge. It had an impact of $3,000 for us.

Thanks for the replies, ladies. Sounds like we're pretty much screwed.
