Hi Everyone, It's not that late but chatting seemed like as good an activity to do as any. What kind of day did everyone have today? I had a nice time with BFF today. We went for coffee. She was telling me this story about this girl in her Spanish class in University. I was well duh I know her, too because remember I was in the same class? I sat at the back of the room remember? She was, oh yeah forgot about that. We were classmates a long time ago and have all the same stories. We were at the same parties and didn't know each other then. How sad is that. I would have been introduced to her but I didn't remember her nor her me but when we did get reacquainted we hit it off right away! We did laugh about that.
Did anyone see anything really cool today?
One thing I noticed about my neighbourhood was that there are a lot less deer right now. There were 2 at the top of my street. There were not the usual 5 or 7 a little further down the road. There were none at the top of the hill and that's where they live. The cougar they moved might have taken one or two down maybe? I think the deer have moved on a bit. It might sound sad but we have no garden to speak of because they eat everything but daffodils and rhododenerons. OR the does have gone into the woods to have fawns. That is entirely possible, too.
It's Thursday where some of you are at. What plans do you have for the day? Anyone doing anything exciting? I am not sure what I will do yet.
I talked to DDIL and DS tonight. She sent me a text today and I chatted with her a bit. She also seems so happy. I don't text her unless I have a specific question. She texts me to chat with me. I just love her. He is lucky to have her.
It was not that exciting today.
You?

Good Morning from Munich.
Yesterday was a lovely day here. I met up with a friend and her young daughter and we went to the zoo! Being a Wednesday, it wsn't very busy, even though it was a gorgeous day. There were a few school groups, but mainly just other mums/grandparents with little kids. I haven't been there fro ages, and it was the first time I have seen the polar bears and penguins, as they were still building those areas last time.
Today is another glorious day, and it is also a public holiday, so no kinder. DH got home from Sweden late last night, so we will have a lazy day at home. I'll probably go out for a walk at some stage, and I need to pack as I am leaving for England tomorrow mornng for a long weekend.

sueg are you doing something fun in England or are you just going for the weekend? That's one of the cool things my European friends do. One flies to Lisbon from Madrid every couple of weeks. I am not sure what she does in Lisbon (her parents live there but she hasn't seen them in a while) then flies back to Madrid like it's nothing. My friends in Luxembourg go to Switzerland to go skiing like it's nothing. I still haven't gone to Calgary to visit an old friend of mine. I never go visit family in Manitoba because it's far away and after an hour we are done with them and they are done with us. We just don't know them very well at all. If I wanted to go see BFF in Alaska where she lives it would take me about 12 hours. It's really, really far away so we usually meet up part way like Mexico or Hawaii...

I have a wicked headcold so just waiting for the neocitron to kick in!!! Beautiful day weather wise here in Ontario, had coffee and a good catch up with a friend this morning. DD has been struggling a lot with anxiety, has missed a ton of school....dr put her on medication and she has been having some bad side effects.... but today was a GOOD day, went to school with no fuss, no complaining text messages..... she has never liked school and really hates it this year... her biggest complaint is french...we reluctantly decided to let her drop the class (we wanted her to stay in because there are only 6 weeks left and she has a 76 without opening a book...). Guidance has been excellent and they are letting her do the class on her own in a resource class.... so today in her french period she caught up on everything she has missed and is now ahead of the class and worked on a history assignment!!!!! She had a pretty decent hockey tryout and I even heard her tell a team mate she was excited for school tomorrow... long may it last.
We also lost some roof shingles in a wicked wind storm Friday, roofers came a day early and it only cost $150!!!!
So besides being sick a good day all around (and DH had a few hints from higher ups that he will be getting the job he wants with a promotion)

sueg are you doing something fun in England or are you just going for the weekend? I am meeting up with a group of friends for a knitting weekend. Every year, we rent a farmhouse or similar somewhere, and go from Friday to Monday to knit, eat, drink and chatter. There are 12 of us meeting up this year. When we finish up on Monday morning, I am then going to Oxford - the farmhose is only half an hour from there - and staying an extra day to explore.

She might not want to see him. I have gone to Winnipeg and she didn't want to see my sister and I. My dad thought that was weird. I am not going to there because my Grandparents are no longer there and my mother's brother is gone as well. We don't talk to his children. I went for a family wedding years ago and I am good now. BFF thinks she might come here or we'll go somewhere. It will depend if I am sick after Italy or not. Believe me I am scared of getting sick if I go.

I have followed your knitting weekends for a couple of years now. That is so cool! That would be such a fun get together for a weekend. Twelve sounds wonderful. I hope you have a very productive weekend together all knitting away. Are you taking several projects then picking which to work on? Are you going yarn shopping? Is there a special yarn store there?

I am taking two, maybe three projects - I like to have some different 'degrees of difficulty', so I can switch depending on the time/situation. I can't take too much, as I am flying with just carryon. There is no yarn store near where we are staying, but there looks to be a nice one in Oxford that I will check out on Monday afternoon. Last year, there was a lovely store that sold fiber for spinning near us - I don't spin, but it was still interesting to visit.

We have a yarn store in town. I am not sure what you have in Germany but this store for Canadian standards I like a lot. OR they have a lot of yarn that appeals to me. That might be a better explanation. They also sell needlepoint and buttons. It's a very cool store. I need to go with someone who knows how to knit so they can tell me what to make (crochet). There are another couple of yarn stores in town that I can think of (not Michaels) and they are also decent I think. I just happen to like this one for its character.

We have a few stores here in Munich. There is one I love, which sells higher-end yarns and a couple of locations of a chain store that sell more basic yarns, including loads of sock yarn. Even our larger department stores sell basic yarn. We don't have large crafts stores like Michaels here. There is also a wonderful indie dyer who lives in a small village about half an hour out of town, and opens her shop there a couple of weekends (Fri/Sat) each month. Her colors are just gorgeous, so I have a fair bit in my stash.

There is some craftsperson who does her own dyeing and makes amazing yarn. Scrapbooking will come and go but knitting and crocheting are timeless.

There are a number of indie dyers here - my absolute favourite is near Nuremburg, but there are also many in Canada and the US - I have seen (and bought) their yarn from etsy. You just need to know where to look.

I did get to visit a couple of artisans in Japan making pottery, painting dolls and making lacquerware at various times. I have to say that was very cool. A friend of mine was taking silk dyeing lessons. Another friend's mother's hobby was painting kimonos and she was going to paint her 2 daughters' kimonos for them. That would have been so cool!

Hello from Thursday evening. I’m cooking dinner (gnocchi with arugula and garlic bread) amd peaing while the water boils. The weather is just perfect, 70-72 amd sunny so been sitting outside with the dogs a lot today. Sadly rain all weekend for Mother’s Day but I’m hoping to parlay that into a solo beach trip (just me and my dog) for Mon-Tues. is it wrong I’d rather go alone than all of us for Mother’s Day?😂
In my defense I’ll want to hike but everyone will complain. The beach is a little island off the coast near I Chen Airport, called Muuido, and has hiking and beaches- dog heaven.
