We just brought home a Bernese-Kelpie puppy last night.
We have a little indoor bichon shit-zu who has no interest in interacting wit any dogs much less a puppy. She actually gets scared and comes running to me.
This morning I went out to check on the puppy and let our small dog out too. I noticed she had globs of drool by her mouth. At first I thought she must have had water before we went out.
I was just tending to the puppy again and had our small dog around too. I noticed drops of liquid on the garage floor and realized it was once again our small dog drooling.
She never drools. She’s showing no sign of illness so I wouldn’t suspect rabies. The drooling only started with the new puppy.
Has anyone ever experienced that? I’ll be calling the vet tomorrow just to see if maybe she needs to be seen.

![]() Here’s a photo of the cute stinker. I haven’t been able to get a good photo because he’s still missing his mom and won’t sit up for me.

Many dogs will drool when under stress. I will guess that the presence of the puppy is stressing your other dog - quite a bit.
eta: your puppy is adorable!

Do you think older dog is a little nervous with the new puppy and panting more? I've noticed our dog pants a lot when she's nervous.

She’s not panting at all, just the accessive drool. She’s fine when she’s inside with me but as soon as I go to the garage with the puppy she gets anxious.
She gets anxious easily. Kids and other dogscause her stress. I’ve read that it can take 3 weeks for an older dog to accept a new puppy. We’re hoping that adding another dog to the family will help with some of her timidness.

My sister got a new puppy (Bernedoodle) Saturday, and stayed with us through the weekend until she headed back to her home state. My 18mo St. Bernard was very interested, and did drool a bit while she was here. He normally only drools when he's eating or drinking. So, I have no medical explanation, or knowledge of how to fix it, but I can attest that it does happen.

When a dog is scared or nervous, they can drool excessively. I bet that's what is going on. She is also a small dog, and this is going to be quite a bit larger than her I would assume. Her routine is upset and there is a new member of the pack. She is scared and nervous. There are natural chewables called Stress Away that a lot of vets sell or you can get them on amazon. Not sure they will help but they might. Talk to the vet and see what he recommends. Hugs to the pack and you!
