Recently we have seen several new homes that have a *spout* like you see in a shower/tub combo in a stall shower. We can't figure out what they are for. Washing your feet? Does anyone have one in their shower?
ETA: after googling it seems there are varied reasons why people might add one to a shower. As several Peas pointed out, filling a bucket could be a reason. Some people call them *toe testers* i.e. sticking your toe in to test the water temp. I'm thinking we won't be adding one with our new master bath remodel next month.

Could it be so that you could attach one of those hoses that fit over the spout to wash your dog?

I don't have one, but I'm going to guess it's so you can fill a bucket to clean the bathroom.

No, but sounds like a practical idea- feet, mop bucket, filthy muddy boy shoes...

How odd..kind of a strange thing if you had a spray hose attached at the top because that would be easy enough to clean your stall or a dog but if there was just a fixed shower head then I could see filling a bucket or to wash ones feet especially if this was in a mud room.

The ones we've seen have mostly been in the master bathroom but in one house we went through, it was in a secondary bathroom as well.

Are they brand new houses? Or did the redo the bathrooms to remove a sub and replace it with a shower stall. I could see leaving the spout might be easier in the short term and make it so that you could go back to a tub at a later time without redoing the plumbing.

And from the configuration of the ones we've seen, they weren't replacing a bathtub.

Did not know this was a thing.
We are in the process of remodeling our bathroom. We were going to put a shower with glass enclosure where the bathtub is now. And, I was going to have the spigot installed in the shower. Convenient to fill a bucket or wash feet, as someone else mentioned.
We've since scrubbed that idea and are installing a new tub. Better option for our needs.

While I probably wouldn't put one in if I was putting in a new bathroom, I can tell you how I use my spigot in my bathtub now that we only take showers. I use a nylon body puff & body wash and I find the puffs get slimy if they're not rinsed well. The shower just doesn't do as good a job as the spigot, so I rinse out my puff that way every day. Totally first world problem so, like I said, I probably wouldn't install one, but I would use it every day if it was there.
