Just found this article about a photographer in the US at the turn of the last century.

I love that they found these negatives and they give such a fascinating glimpse into life...the last paragraph though is really profound:
"While looking at the photos, I feel proud, sad, and frustrated… I wonder who the people are, how they lived and worked and were they happy? We will probably never know the answers for most of these photographs."
