.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. I'm so glad Maddie won! She was one of my favorites from the top 24. And how cute that she and Caleb (also a favorite) are a couple. I hope it lasts.

I'm happy that she won too! I wonder if the thing with Caleb is real or not though. I know they are really good friends from their instagram stories. I suspect it may have been a secret agreement with them if they were the final two to announce the relationship so they could go through the win together aka promote each other. Who knows? They are both adorable so either way, its great, IMO.

I wanted Caleb to win but I must admit that I do think that Maddie was the better choice since she has more of a range than Caleb. Hopefully they will both have successful careers.

Also glad to see Maddie win: and surprised, only because my favorites never win!! I never really liked Caleb much: he seemed so robotic and zoned out when he sang, but it was sweet to see them sing together, and when he held her hand and she was all giggly, it made my heart melt a little. Very cute.
Mostly I was glad to see Gabby taken down a notch. She always seemed so entitled, and those judges critiques at the last performances didn't seem to sit well with her. I never really got how much a twang she had in her style, considering she's from Pittsburgh. It always seemed so put-on to me. Also, she always hunkered down and hunched her neck really weird, like a snake kind of, when she performed and it was very odd to watch. Can you tell I didn't really like her as a performer?
I liked when Catie and Katy sang together, and I was surprised at how Katy Perry let her shine in that performance and kind of took a back seat so that she could be the star of that duet, but then she ruined it for me at the very end of the show when she stole the mic from Michael when all the contestants were helping Maddie sign her final song.
I think I'm a little too invested in this show.

I, too was relieved Maddie won! Though I did like Caleb as well.
DH thought Gabby would win. He felt that the judges always seemed to go easy on her and that she was their favorite. *I* thought she was really believed she had won already and it was in the bag. I bet she was pissed last night though. Gabby was supposed to be on GMA this morning with Maddie and Caleb but instead was Skyped in. I wonder if she refused to travel with them or something? Or was it planned this way all along?

I also thought I noticed a little attitude when she was walking off the stage after she was eliminated. She quickly reigned it in. Maddie was always my favorite. I love her style and her humbleness.

I would guess that if they become a couple during the competition, the producers would ask them to not reveal that. Mostly I was glad to see Gabby taken down a notch. Agree with this. I wasn't a huge fan of her singing (I think she sounds very nasally at times) but also she did seem like you said. And the hunkering down bugged me from the first time she did it.

Gabby & Kade are a couple and there were many comments about that throughout the season
Did you see Maddie on Kelly & Ryan this morning? She said that Ryan is really bad at hiding the cards & that they could see who won before it was announced, and that they could see it every week. And Ryan told about a really cute comment that Caleb made, that he was glad he came in 2nd so that he could experience seeing Maddie win.
Maddie was my choice from early on so glad to see her win

So maybe Maddie and Caleb just decided on their own to keep it quiet.

I was glad that Gabby didn't win, she came across as "she thinks, better than the rest".
My favorite was Layla Spring, I was sad when she left. I think she was better than Gabby vocally. I loved Layla and her little Sister Dyxie performance at the finale. I will be following both of them, and hope a music career evolves for them both. They both looked so surprised and starstruck when LeAnn Rimes joined them. It was a sweet moment.
Also, I felt like the whole "season" was rushed. The original American Idol took many weeks, nowadays it seems to be over so quickly. Originally, each week had a different theme "pop, country, ballads, judges choice, Stevie Wonder(or whomever) songs, songs from the 70's, the full version on their audition song, etc... I miss that variety, as well as seeing each contestant venture out of their comfort zone and bring their style to whatever the genre.

I never cared for Gabby and she got so much worse toward the end IMO- screeching. I'm glad to see that it came down to those 2, since my boy Cade didn't make it.

Okay, I'm gonna say it. I don't get the Maddie love. Her vocal range is so small. Seriously bad. She had trouble with the highest note in her single, and it's only a C#6. I've heard her have trouble both ends of her range. Everything I've heard from her sounds the same. Cutesty, folksy but boring. And I honestly hate that song. I was very disappointed with the season. Can't STAND Katy Perry or Lionel Richie and didn't much like any of the finalists. Off to find videos of Gabby "turtle neck" now.

Oh wow, I see what you mean about Gabby! I bet she doesn't know she does that, and no one has ever told her. It's a terrible habit and she looks ridiculous (I checked out her "Don't Stop Believin'" performance).

They had too much freedom to choose.

I couldn't stand Gabby from the get-go, but I thought she'd win. I was happily surprised when she didn't make the top two and got knocked off her pedestal. I'm glad Maddie won.
I thought the trip to Hawaii, with everything going on right now, was strange.

I noticed that during the finale that she did that - usually I fast forward thru so fast I don't notice those things.. In Gabby's defense - she deserved to have the judges point out what she could do to improve and that is a huge flaw! I wish the judges would have given some real constructive criticism. Overall, Maddie was my favorite over the season so I am happy with her win but also felt the season was super rushed and somewhat predictable.

Don't stop .. is the theme song of the local baseball team.. and gabby did a dreadful job of it. maddie was the best of the three. but caleb would have been better.
all of their music was boring to me.. not pop or rock.. I dont do country.

Most definitely! I don't think the judges were all that great throughout the entire season. And Katy Perry sure does like to make a scene.

(Side note - if you haven't seen the documentary about the Filipino guy that Journey found on YouTube to replace Steve Perry... go right now and watch that. It's called 'Don't Stop Believin: Everyman's Journey' and its on Amazon Prime.) I almost didn't bother watching the finale because I thought it's been a fairly dull and predictable season, but I'm glad I watched. I cried when Layla and her adorable little sister sang. I cried when Catie and Katy sang. I cried when Maddie and Caleb announced their relationship and sang. I think I need my hormone levels checked. i did like the shorter format and the way the voting is done real time. I'm sure I'll get sucked in again next season.

Good point about Maddy watching herself. But you can easily be blind to your own flaws.
I'm the opposite; when I watch videos of myself singing I cringe and am super critical. Somehow I doubt Gabby has that problem.

I too, think that was the worst performance of Don't stop believing, that I've ever heard.
I think Steve Perry was put on the spot, when asked his thoughts and opinions, and rather than say "it sucked and she ruined my song", he graciously said it was great. I think he's far too classy of a man and a legendary performer, to purposely embarrass someone in public.
Edited to add: I was hoping he be spontaneous and crazy, and run up on stage and say "hit it" to the band, and sing a little bit.

I’m really glad Maddie won. She’s been my favorite for quite some time. I never understood the appeal of Gabby. I love country music but there was nothing unique about her. And her over-bleached hair drove me nuts.
I adore Maddie. She was one of my favorites from the start but became my top pick when she sang Brand New Key.
I picked up on the Cade/Gabby romance early on but never suspected Maddie and Caleb. I thought it was sweet when he said she was his girlfriend and was so adorable when he took her hand and she just smiled and looked like she could just melt. I saw an IG post she wrote after winning and she commented that one of the best things about the AI experience was meeting Caleb and she loves how he makes her laugh. I think they have the potential to last although both are still so young.
I SO wish Katy and Lionel were gone. There was absolutely no constructive criticism from any of the judges this season. I can only imagine the comments Simon would have made to some of them. I really wish Harry had returned. I forget how many millions of dollars it was reported that Katy was paid to be a judge and she did a crappy job. To her it was The Katy Show.

Add a few more weeks and a few more themes and I'd really enjoy it. I liked how Katy let her have the spotlight. It seems like shows are going to 2 hours and a shorter span. I wonder if that trend will continue. Suck the audience in rather than risk losing viewers over longer periods.

I read somewhere that the season was going to be longer, but due to low ratings they shortened it.
I REALLY wanted Steve Perry to perform!!!!
