It wasn't as horrible as I had worked myself up into believing it could possibly be.
That said, there were things that were a slap in the face. Our table was near the head table (surprising actually) - but in the corner by our table was a "wish you were here if heaven was closer" stand with some photos on it. The baby boy my brother lost when he was 3 months, some older couples in wedding gear (I'm assuming the groom's grandparents), my grandparents holding a baby (so the bride's great-grandparents)......but no photo of my Dad. And no way she doesn't have access to a photo of him. My Mom was beyond pissed - she actually took Dad's obituary photo from her purse (she keeps a laminated copy with her always) and stuck it up there.
I did get a thank you for the cake, well after dinner when I was saying goodbye to them when I left. But I did get thanked.
I didn't have to speak or interact with the ex wife at all. I managed to avoid her all day. It was great.
My brother did not walk her down the aisle - he actually sat with me and my kids instead of in the front row with parents. Nice.
He did get to be in some photos with them - a really nice one of him and her alone (which set me off into tears because I didn't think that was happening). And then him, his son and the ex had a photo together as well. It was nice.
And because I know you all want to see:
And a few more photos from the day:
My girls and their loves:
My Mom and all her grandchildren, minus my son who was at basketball:

I know you said you didn't want to do real flowers because you wanted to make them. They absolutely look real! Unless you changed your mind and they are real. I can't tell!

Glad it went well and the cake is very nice. I do confess to not understanding the whole naked cake craze (and remember that it was the bride’s choice). I’m all about the icing.

That cake is beautiful! And I assumed the flowers were real, too - are they not?
Glad the day wasn't a disaster and that they thanked you for your beautiful work!

I am so glad that you didn’t have to deal with a lot of drama and that you were thanked for all of your hard work. You made an amazing, beautiful cake for them.

I do confess to not understanding the whole naked cake craze (and remember that it was the bride’s choice). I’m all about the icing. I'm the opposite - I scrape the icing off and eat just the cake. We should sit beside each other. I'm glad the event went okay for you and the cake is lovely!

Your cake is absolutely amazing! I saved some gum paste (am I recalling that correctly?) flowers from my wedding cake because they were just so beautiful - I still have them 22+ years later, although they aren't *quite* as lovely now, lol. Your flowers blow mine away! Absolutely fantastic!
I'm sorry there were some bad moments, but it sounds like more of them were good.

Your cake is gorgeous! So much prettier than the example you showed on the other thread that was the inspiration photo. I bet it was delicious too. Cake. Yum!

Such a beautiful cake. I, too, don't generally like the naked look, but I thought you had done done sort of transparent effect- it is stunning! All the flowers look real. Are they? You are so talented!

I'm glad it went OK. Now you can put her in the past and not deal with her again if you don't want to.
The cake is absolutely stunning, there is no way she could possibly say anything negative about it.

Glad it went well and the cake is very nice. I do confess to not understanding the whole naked cake craze (and remember that it was the bride’s choice). I’m all about the icing. I don't get it, either. I didn't mind Meghan Markle's rough texture cake though. Kind of a compromise between a naked cake and super perfect cake. Love your work though. It's the most perfect naked cake I've ever seen. Nailed the flowers, too.

The cake is stunning, you did a great job.
I quite like the naked cake look and don't get me wrong I love some good icing, but often in order to get it to look so perfect there is just far too much icing. This is a win/win all round...some icing to complement the cake, but not an inch's worth.

I'm glad things went relatively well for you and your family Cakediva on the day of the wedding.
I'm so sorry for your Mom that your Dad's photo was omitted from the deceased relatives table but I love her gumption of pulling out his photo from her purse and sticking it up there anyway-good for her!
The cake you made for them is extraordinarily beautiful and you deserved a much bigger thank you than the one you had to wait and get while you were leaving. What the heck is the matter with some people? If I were that bride I would have thanked you as soon as I saw you that day, at the reception and again as you were leaving.
I've never heard of the new trend of Naked Cake. Your's is the first I've ever seen like that. Personally I don't care for it at all. It looks to me as though it's only half frosted. But, if that's the new trend and that's what they asked for, you did a fantastic job. Are those flowers real or did you make them from gum paste?

That is a lovely cake and a small thank you at the end just screams ungrateful. Sounds like that part of the family is filled w/drama. Stick to your part of the family that has happiness instead of soap opera moments.

What a gorgeous cake. I love the naked cake style, and the way it looks a little rustic. I’m glad the day went well.
