Not really. The girls at Gerbes get a kick out of seeing me with all my bags. I use the self checkout a lot, and they always have to override the system since some of my bags are rather sturdy and thus weigh more than the machines are calibrated for.
If I forget my bags, I have to ask for more paper bags than are usually available.

Yes. It's becoming more of a norm now. I don't go into the grocery store anymore without bags.

99% resuable here. I hate it when I forget mine. I have a ton in the car trunk and all over the house. I love them!

Almost always. Plastic bags are outlawed and the stores charge for paper.

I've only read the first page, but I'm surprised how uncommon it is to bring your own elsewhere. I'm in Seattle. Plastic bags are banned and have been for years. If you need a paper bag you pay 5c per bag. For grocery store and similar use I have probably 7-8 reusable shopping bags. I've also always had one of THESE in my purse, sometimes two for 10 years. They fold and role very small and are so handy, and the designs are so fun! I don't use them for groceries, so they don't get junky and last forever. I've given them as gifts and everyone loves them
ETA: to answer the OP's question. In the area of Seattle that I live in, it's much more uncommon to see someone who has not brought their own grocery bags with them. Definitely much higher than 50% of people do, maybe closer to 75%?
ETA2: wow, what a horribly written post... but I'm tired, PUI a bit, and don't care enough to fix it, sorry ;D

I'd say about 20% of people do. If I go inside, I take my 31 bags, but I've taken to doing clicklist. I wish there was a way you could tell them no bags and then load the bags in the trunk

Starting July 1st in my city single use bags will be banned. 95% of the time I bring my reusables to the grocery store. I never bring a reusable when I shop at other stores like Target and Home Depot

I don't think I've ever noticed anyone using them here. I have some from Wal-Mart that hook onto the cart and I try to use them. But usually I forget them at home.

Yes, virtually everyone uses their own bags. Scotland has been charging for single use carrier bags for years now, and it has drastically cut the number of plastic bags being discarded into the environment. I’ve been using my own bags for years before the charge was brought in, but it wasn’t that common. Now virtually nobody goes to a supermarket without their own bags. Tesco just stopped selling the single use ones altogether the other month, and now only sells sturdy reusable cloth or thick plastic type bags, or ‘bags for life’ which are thicker plastic bags which get replaced for free when they eventually wear out. I try not to get a plastic carrier bag anywhere I shop, but still do occasionally if I’m clothes shopping. I’ll hang onto any bag I get now, and reuse and reuse until they are done. It’s been a really popular policy as bag charges go to charity, and has been very widely accepted and adopted by Scots with pretty much no grumbling about it. exactly what Jockscrap says but replace Scotland 🏴 with Wales 🏴

Totally, have done for years. The rules that Jockscrap outlined apply in England too. I have a big collection that lives in the boot(trunk) of my car. My oldest one is a big, tough one I bought in a french supermarket many years ago. Not sure if Aldi carry the same bags worldwide but I find their bags a good size and cute. They also sell a reusable insulated bag, ice blue with cute penguins on it. In addition, I carry a small foldable bag in my handbag for those small purchases in town.

Here, just about everyone brings bags. I always have one or two with me when I am out. If you don't bring a bag, it costs 10-15c to buy one. All the stores also sell fabric bags for €1-2, so I now have quite a collection from my early days here, when I tended to forget more often. Our supermarkets are nearly all 'pack your own', so no annoyance from the cashiers. In department stores, I have had cashiers help me pack into my cloth bags.

Plastic bags have been banned in South Australia for years now 10-15 years now. A couple of our supermarket chains are stopping having any plastic for purchase (15c) from July this year.
It is just remembering to get them from the car before one enters the shops and not as one is about to go through the checkout. Very frustrating!

I'm in Portugal and almost everyone uses reusable bags now because they started charging for plastic bags a few years ago. In clothes stores we are always given paper or cloth bags. It's a shame that people will only change their bad habits when it hurts them in the pocket but at least this method works.

It's very common here. I can't remember the last time I actually bought a plastic bag ( they charge for them) It just becomes a habit after a while a bit like taking your money purse with you The grocery bags I put back in the boot ( trunk) of the car as soon as I empty them. I carry a couple of these in my handbag for " emergency" or "on a whim" shopping I may do. The times I have seen something I like and want to buy when I'm out somewhere but not specifically out shopping.

I live in Colorado Springs and I don't see anyone bringing reusable bags. We don't have recycle bins throughout our city either for people to put their recycles in when out and about as I have seen in many larger cities. There has been talk about banning and charging, but has not gone forward. Today we picked up sandwiches at Subway and they put our food in a paper bag instead of the normal plastic they have always used. Many of the fast food places are doing more paper type containers rather than foil or plastic. Little steps lead to bigger ones, so maybe we will get there some time.

Having been unsuccessful finding any in the card shops, I spotted these cute penguin bags at Aldi and bought them instead. They are both students, loved them and can make use of them, and they cost about the same as an extra big gift bag. The gift that keeps on giving!

It’s very common here as several other California peas noted. If I forget my bags in the car I just load my back cart up with the loose items and put them in my bags when I get to my car.

It's been fairly popular here for quite a few years now. I have a bunch and do my best to remember to bring them in while shopping, mainly grocery shopping.
There are a few towns around us, including our town that has banned plastic bags. They just do paper in all the stores from grocery to clothing.

It depends on where I shop. When I go to the grocery store nearest to my house very few people bring reusable bags. When I go 2 miles north to a trendier city, more people tend to. Personally, I prefer the reusable bags. They are easier to carry, hold more and they stand up nicely so I don't have items rolling to the back of the trunk where I can't reach them, and they are better for the environment.

I live in Texas, and no. No one brings reusable bags - but most do get paper bags instead of plastic ones from the store. I'm in Texas too and they are pretty rare in my area, unless you are at Whole Foods Depends on where you are in Texas! Here, they're required, or you have to pay for paper or reuseable plastic bags. I do sometimes deliberately shop next town over, as I have 3 cats and need plastic bags, lol. Jennifer, are you in Austin? I know they are pretty Earth conscious.

Another Brit. Everyone I know uses reusable bags. I have fold up ones I keep in my handbag for those impulse shops and a collection of bags I use for proper shopping trips or the grocery trip. I get annoyed with myself when I have to pay for a bag because I forgot one.

In the local grocery stores I’d say only about 10-20% of people use them. We do. In Trader Joe’s lots more do, probably close to 75%. Danvers just put a plastic bag ban in place that starts June 1. I think that's just the start.

Yes, lots. They charge for bags here. I have lots, but still often forget them in the car. In that case, I will just put my stuff back into the cart and take to the car that way.

yes. we have to pay for bags at all stores here, 5 cents per.
i do still buy them from the grocery store by times because we have organic waste recycling and they fit into the green bins perfectly.
always ticked when i get reusable ones together and leave them on the couch or at the front door.

Yes grocery stores started charging 5cents for bags many years ago and Trader Joe’s no longer has plastic bags which is not practical when it’s raining and you have to walk to the bus stop.

I'm in the UK and most people here bring their own bags. Occasionally people are obviously making an unplanned purchase, or don't care. My BIL and SIL are in the "don't care" category. The education process continues. Last year the law changed so that stores charge for bags. That helped a lot.
