I wanted to order that wave die that had been posted earlier this week. I went to the site where I am sure it originated. It was 72 dollars. Nope. I'll spend a fair amount on product, but that was way too much for a die set (3 dies) to make one card. Found it on AliExpress for $12 with shipping. I am all about buying American and supporting my LSS. This time I just couldn't do it. I wish that certain companies didn't have such a huge mark up. I would have purchased it for $36, but not $72.

I don’t blame you. I don’t use dies but it sounds like they can cost a small fortune! One has to save money and it’s wither buy the die from overseas or don’t buy one at all. No choice to me.

I must admit, I’ve bought lots of dies from AE since I found them. Some, although not all, are copies of dies made by well known companies. The only ones I might have been tempted to buy at full price are Simon Says Stamp ones. However, their shipping charges to the UK are ridiculous - $15 for purchases up to $50. There is no way I’m going to pay $15 shipping on a $9 die!

I’ve bought a ton of dies from Ali for this very reason. In fact I just purchased 5 knock off dies that if I had bought them from the original manufacturer would have cost me roughly $175 (keep in mind that I’m in Canada and pay 30% more than you peas in the US). I paid $16, shipping included. Don’t get me wrong, I support these companies and have invested a small fortune in their stuff, but seriously the dies cut perfectly and it’s hard not to shop at Ali. Some of the things I’ve bought, I would never have purchased due to the cost/how much will I really use it factor. But when it’s only a few $, it’s really hard to resist.

I agree that $72 is way too much. But I also think that making exact copies (and in some cases using the original companies photos!) and selling them is not right and I refuse to purchase from Ali.
I don't judge people who do, but I choose to either do without or support the original creator.
I recently purchased a few stacked card fronts from the Silhouette Store for $.050 each set.
The Ali threads here have actually made me more aware of what I purchase on Amazon, too. Not just craft supplies but other items as well.

I recently purchased a few stacked card fronts from the Silhouette Store for $.050 each set. I'm curious, how did you search for them in the Silhouette store? I searched 'layered cards' and found a couple, and also searched 'stacked cards' and found a couple designs, but it really didn't seem to be very many. (I don't search in the Silhouette store very often, any more...) thanks!

I have a hard time with Ali...I use the excuse that I'm too lazy to repeatedly produce one time use card numbers on my CC when in reality I know if I buy something I'm going to want to buy it all and it's easier to buy nothing than pick and choose. But now that most of them are showing up on eBay (if you wait a bit, they will and will often be a few cents less) I find it harder to restrain myself. My eBay cart is getting as full as my Ali one. On the upside, the full card cover layering dies are starting to show up on more on Ali already...when that happens, the prices drop because of the competition. The ones that were $6-$8 each just a couple of weeks ago are now showing up in the $3-$5 range!

thanks, I'll try that one and see what I get! (not that I 'need' any more Silhouette files, but... you know how it goes!)
ETA: I hit the jackpot!! thanks! (I wish they didn't make it so difficult to search for things; I think whatever they did to the way they organized the sections made it worse than it used to be, not better.)
