Sounds like the beginning of the end.
-----------------
Sears will close at least 63 more stores as sales plunge and losses mount.
The list of store closings was announced Thursday. Sears said it identified 100 non-profitable Sears and Kmart stores and picked 63 for closure "in the near future."
The company closed nearly 400 stores during the past 12 months, and now has a total of 894 left, including the 63 slated for closure. The two chains had a total of 3,500 US stores between them when they merged in 2005.
Sears is looking to sell its Kenmore appliance brand in an effort to raise cash, after selling off its Craftsman tool brand a year ago.

Sears has been dying a slow, painful death for the last 10 years or so. I'm not sad to see it go.

True to my word I have not set foot in Sears in a decade after they fucked me over on a dishwasher and demonstrated the worst customer service I’ve experienced just about anywhere.
Sorry for all the people who are losing their jobs though - that part really stinks.

Sad, as bad as thier home service is it was light years above the other company we had for the lemon fridge we had.
No idea where I’d get appliance service now

I was finding Sears getting more and more expensive and ended up shopping elsewhere. The ones closest to us closed after Christmas. So much of my childhood fun was getting the Sears Christmas catalog.

It's a sad, sad demise of what was once a go-to retailer for so many. I can't help but think their deteriorating customer service over the last two decades was a major factor in their losses. Kenmore used to be a premium, reliable appliance brand. Too bad.

Sears has been dying a slow, painful death for the last 10 years or so. I'm not sad to see it go. I worked for sears, it has been dying since the 80's. List of lucrative government contracts, promoting only men that fit the cooperate look, getting rid of full time employees... The list is very long. It's a shame.

That makes me sad - it is soon to be an end of an era. I remember that while growing up Sears was the dependable store....we got our Die Hard car batteries from Sears, lawn mowers, tools, appliances (Kenmore) all came from Sears because they were reliable.
The Sears where I shop has a wonderful clothing section and I like their clothes - they hold up well. It is such a shame to read that any of them are closing (the one I shop at is on the list too) - so sad for all the employees that will be out of work but also just sad to see such a one-time giant retail store closing shop.

It is a little sad for all those loosing jobs. It's sad when the longtime business go out. We did like it too for appliances. But It was a little more than even Home Depot. There were two here, maybe three if there's one in Phoenix stiil at the local malls. I don't get out that far, but the one close to us was always empty. Even during holidays.Dh's cousin worked there for a while. She got sent home quit a bit if they were too slow. I started at Mervyns so I know what it's like.

Yup our store got the announcement this morning. Although ours was not a sales issue. Our mall won't renew our lease. It was pretty sad. People were crying. We have members that have been there 30+ years. Our store did pretty good but it was definitely not the Sears of yesteryear.

Last time we needed a major appliance -- a refrigerator and stove both at the same time, oy -- I got them at Sears. They had no-interest financing for a year (which of course I paid off right before the year was up, so no interest at all), delivery and installation, and they hauled away the old ones. And they charmed my dog who hates strangers in her house. We're going to need a new washer and dryer soon, so I guess I won't be getting them at Sears. I'm sorry for all those losing their jobs.

And you can pretty much guess Sears will be a thing of the past in probably less than 3 years (and I would say that is being generous). They were talking about just being an online retailer at one point but I don't think that panned out.

I am so surprised that our local Sears isn't on the list. It is a sad, empty store in a sad, empty mall and has been for years. I can't remember the last time I shopped there.

The two we have are not on the list, I go there to shop the Lands End stuff, but last time I did get a tool kit for myself as well. I don’t even look at anything else, just the Lands End stuff. It is sad they are closing, I feel for the people losing their job.

I have been putting off replacing my godawful Kenmore fridge, due to the ridiculous cost of fridges. But on the other hand, I can't wait till the last Kenmore product is out of my house.
Our Sears closed in April, finally. Although I was surprised the Kmart didn't go first. I was in there at Christmas and its a really awful store. Dingy and grimy.

I've been buying all my appliances from Sears for the last 47yrs so I'm going to miss my local store. They started their sale last Friday and are scheduled to close sometime in August.
I was in Lowes last night and noticed that they had quite a bit of the Seas Craftsman line on display. I wonder if they will be taking over that line of tools in their stores. 99% of DH's hand and power tools are Craftsman.

In small New Hampshire, we still have 5 Sears and 3 K-marts! None of which are closing. Sears is like a ghost town and K-mart is interesting but usually busy.

It is sad to see all the retail employment going with these closures. There are no jobs for these people to fill for re-employment.

It's not the beginning of the end it's like they are halfway through cutting off a piece at a time until there is nothing left. They have sold all their brands. Why are they even trying to keep the stores afloat at this point?

Every time a Sears closure list comes out I am shocked my local store isn't on it. The store is empty and dirty, smells funky and really not appealing to shop in. But, I always buy my appliances there because I like the Kenmore brand and their zero percent interest deals make it affordable. I'll be sad the day my store does wind up closing.

When I was a little girl, one of my uncles made a career out of being an appliance salesman at Sears. He considered himself a professional at it and was proud of both his knowledge of his product and his skill as a salesman. Sears ruled the world then in their share of the market.
Although I have not shopped at a Sears in more years than I can remember, it's still a little sad to see such an iconic part of American consumerism go. The Sears Wishbook was a treasured part of so many of our childhoods.

I wonder what will happen to Lands’ End. That brand has such a good reputation.

I haven't shopped at Sears in many years due to an extremely poor customer service experience. I do feel for the employees but I honestly dislike that store so much, it's hard to muster much emotion for Sears. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

So much of my childhood fun was getting the Sears Christmas catalog. I saved a Sears Christmas catalog from the early 90's. I knew they were going to stop sending them out, and that was such a fun memory of my childhood in the 70's. I tossed it on a shelf in my closet. Once in a while when I poke around I get it out to show the kids. I remember pouring over the catalog to pick out what I wanted. I am not quite sure I ever got what I asked for, but I loved what I got! LOL
