Power was off for 5 hours and yes I did open the fridge a couple of times. I have 4 Greek yogurts, an unopened Garden Vegetable cream cheese, and an unopened heavy cream. I know the time limit is 4 hours and these are milk products. What do you think? I have thrown out so much stuff...

We turned our fridge off during a 20 hr brown out and I opened the fridge a couple of times. I didn't throw anything out and I'm here to tell about it. I'm not sure where you are concerning how hot it is, but we were in the 60s during that time.

I wouldn't worry at all about the yogurt or cream cheese, and as long as the heavy cream smells/tastes sweet and hasn't curdled, I'd keep that, too. But maybe try to use it soon.

If it still feels cold, I think you are fine.

Only 4 hours? Everything should still be cold to the touch. I wouldn't throw anything away unless it smelled off when I opened it.

If you keep the refrigerator closed, food is good for 12 hours

I would totally eat it. We've had power out longer than that in our 90+ degree weather, and even having opened the door several times, I keep everything.

Wouldn't enter my head to throw anything out.

I am in the "when in doubt, throw it out" camp. BUT, I would eat it without a thought, since it was still cool.

Definitely I would eat all of those. I've kept yogurt out of the fridge for that long many times if I take it in my lunch... Often the teacher I'm subbing for doesn't have a fridge in his/her room and I'm just too lazy to go track one down. My yogurt -- usually homemade, so it's not even in a factory sealed container -- is in my lunch box from about 7:15 when I pack it until lunch which could be as late as 12:30. No problems. Same with the cream cheese.
As for the heavy cream, it's most likely ultra-pasteurized. And anyway, it's easy to tell if it's spoiled because you can just sniff it.

I can sympathize with not wanting to throw stuff out. Last year, we lost power twice within about two weeks for extended amounts of time- so, just enough time to have replaced almost everything we lost the first time. It killed me, but I tossed almost everything again. And then we had a three or four day brownout. Anyway, I have had food poisoning and it isn't something I want to repeat, so I err on the side of caution always.

I'd eat all of those. Today or tomorrow though, I wouldn't keep them too long. I'm sorry you lost a lot, I hate it when that happens!

I'm super neurotic about this stuff and even I would still eat it.
