I'll say that my current place of employment has numerous areas that need improvement. It could be wonderful, but currently is an incredibly stressful place due to management. I was offered a new position. I'm excited and psyched that I did well in the interview. But now I'm feeling very anxious. I think it's the devil you know (which is not good at all) vs. the unknown.
Totally normal, right? [/di
I’m taking the new job

common response... and if you choose to not step outside what you know, you will always wonder "what if??".
sometimes, being afraid to make a change is the *exact* reason to do it!
you got this!!! if you are offered the job, go for it!

Normal. We know the grass isn't always greener but living in fear isn't either. Plus, you get the opportunity to make it what it is and will have less stress. Go.

I worked in the same school for 28 years. I never wanted to move out of the school, but if my job was incredibly stressful and could be fixed but wasn't, I would look elsewhere.

Totally hear you. I'm leaving what is, by any measure, the best public school job I've ever had, to go to a private school. I'm doing it because I can't honestly see keeping up this schedule (7 classes a day grades PK-5) for another 20 years. But it means leaving a supportive admin, kids I love, and great colleagues.
Ultimately we have to keep moving forward.

Did you take the job? I think feeling unsure and anxious is totally normal. Sometimes what we know, even if it is bad or stressful is easier to deal with than the unknown. I'm sure it will work out and honestly, if not, at least you tried something! Good luck, sounds exciting!!

"What would you do if you weren't afraid?"
Take fear out of the equation and make a rational decision.

I hear ya. Totally normal. I'm not one to ask though as I'd never move. My thinking is better the bird in the hand. But I'm saying that knowing the extra difficulty people w disabilities have finding jobs. So the risk that the new opportunity might not pan out would be too dangerous. I'm a better safe than sorry type.

It is normal - but you wanted a new job for a reason-it is scary moving to unknown territory but in the end, you will be glad you accepted the challenge
Change is scary but normal

The problems in the old job that you mentioned... what are the chances that admin will fix them?
In my previous job, admin WAS the problem and the chances of them fixing the problems were zilch. So I left. I am now really happy at my current job.
It was very scary and took some time to adjust. There were the days of "what have I done?" But I'm really good now. The old place is a real mess now and falling apart.... not because I left, but because they haven't fixed anything and getting worse.
My point is, ask yourself maybe even make a list of current problems and the chances of them being addressed. Good luck in your decision. Let us know!

Totally normal. Mostly we regret the things we didn’t do. And this isn’t the end of your life story, just a new chapter. Who knows where this position could lead as a stepping stone to new opportunities in the future. Go for it.

I have taught in 4 states and in 7 schools and each move, while stressful, was a good move. I changed personally as well as professionally and count blessings now from each situation.
Each set of administrators was different, one was even terrifying, but the kids were kids and fellow teachers are usually good folks no matter where you go.
There must have been some internal push for you to even have applied. I say, "Go for it! Make it yours and make it great!"
