Just a few minutes ago I watched while my phone kept getting hotter and hotter and the battery went down quickly. I had no apps open or running in the background (other than the widget that shows my phone's temperature), had just optimized it, and had just rebooted it. It was not plugged in and I haven't installed any new apps recently. It went from 96 to 104 in about 2 minutes.
I looked it up and it's a common issue but there aren't many solutions. Does yours get hot? I wonder if I should try to contact Samsung. I've had it for almost two years, I think, and although it gets hot while using certain apps, it's never done it with no apps open.

Isn't this the model that kept catching fire and was banned from planes? Personally, I'd consider getting a different phone.

DH & I have had our s7s for a little over 18 months. In that time, I've personally only had it happen maybe twice.

I have a Galaxy 4, I think. About twice it has done that. Once about 18 months ago and again last week. I just turned it off for awhile and then back on.
If it does it again, I might get a new phone, rather than worry.

It's still under the extended warranty. I bought it unlocked so it wasn't cheap and I don't really have the money for a new one right now. I'll try to contact Samsung.

I was going to suggest the battery too, but I don't think you can replace the battery in the S7s without really breaking into the thing.

Replace the battery. That is why it is getting hot.

Because this phone is water resistant, the battery is not user replaceable. A shop told me they charge around $160 to change it and the phone may no longer be water resistant. I hope it's not the battery.

Well it seemed to be doing better but tonight it jumped up to 108 degrees when I wasn't even using it. I am filing a claim with the extended warranty place and hopefully something can be done. But now if I have to send it in, I don't have a phone to use in the meantime. Never thought about that. I might have to use one of my kids' old iphones or something. ugh.
eta: after it got that hot it cooled off on its own pretty quickly. Still, something is going on with it.

When I had my s7, it kept restarting for no reason. Just all of a sudden it would shut down and restart. Sometimes up to 5 times a day. When I called Samsung, they had me do some stuff with the phone to see if that would work, waited a couple of days with no change. Called them back and they sent out a new phone, once I had that, we transferred all my stuff from old phone to new and activated it. Send the old phone back. I was lucky not have to send in the phone before a new one came. They were very helpful.
I had a few times of overheating, but what was using certain apps. Never without it being used. Definitely call.

My husband and son both have the Samsungs. Both phones have undergone major repair work because the batteries got so hot that they expanded and broke the Samsung case around it - and burned both of them while in their pockets.
My son was able to fix his on his own, but my hubby paid $100 and had a phone repair guy replace the battery along with the back and the front (it was so hot he dropped it and cracked the glass).
They swear by them NOW ... I just paid $29 for a new battery in my iPhone 6plus and I'm good LOL

No, DH, DD, and I all have S7 with no problem.
I would take the battery out and contact Samsung.

It's not just the Note. My husband's S7 caught fire on our bed in the middle of the night. We've joined in a lawsuit against Samsung.... there are many others like us. Samsung waa absolutely terrible when it happened and we haven't seen a penny from them.

Luckily I don't think he ever charges his phone overnight. I'll have to make sure.

I know and I do anyway. Usually by the time I go to bed it's really low and I forget to plug it in when I first get up.

Well Squaretrade wants me to send it in. Right now I have no reliable backup phone so they said I can take it to any repair center and then send them the receipt for reimbursement. seems odd. So now I have to call the closest repair shop and see if they might be able to figure out the problem with it. I'm guessing it needs a battery and the extended warranty covers one battery replacement according to the contract I found.

What a timely thread--mine got really hot last night. I've had it about 18 months. I've also noticed battery life is getting dramatically shorter.

Update-pretty much no update. Samsung recommended a shop about an hour away. I set up an appointment and went there for a diagnostic but they said that takes 24-48 hours. No backup phone and I was not going to be able to go back there for a few days, so I didn't have it done. Called Samsung and they said the shop should take no more than 3 hours for a diagnostic. Well there's nothing I can do about that now. They said I could send them the phone and it would cost up to $xxx to get it fixed. Still have the extended warranty so I don't want to do that. They suggested a factory reset so I did that last night. I'm still trying to get my backup restored now but it got to about 105 right after the reset. Maybe it was because of the reset this time. Since then I haven't used it much-just enough to get my app backups done (restoring sms and mms right now-that's probably going to take the longest). I seriously hate starting over on a phone. Nothing is ever quite right.
So anyway I'm not going to use any special icon packs, fonts, etc and see if that helps.

Just talked to my daughter. She had the same phone, and she said it did that too. But shortly after it kept getting hot, the battery would no longer take a charge. She got rid of the phone. Sorry you are having issues.

My LG started to get hot and the battery would die quickly. Then it started to freeze up. My samsung 7 has had no issues. Same with dh.
