Do what? Seriosuly? There are hated popular expressions? I prolly use a lot of these expressions myself. My bad. Am I the only one? We peas should get some boots on the ground to drill down and find out why each of these expressions are hated, then circle back and discuss but not before having all of our ducks in a row. We should be able to identify the low hanging fruit quickly, but will have to look at the more complex phrases on a granular level. Understanding why certain phrases are hated could be a game changer. But at the end of the day, we may learn that it is what it is so when people say things that annoy us, we will have to choose our battles carefully because one of those annoying persons may be off their meds. Literally. <I'm evil and I know it. > I despise the use of the word prolly. For reals.

"You know"
My DH can't speak a sentence without adding "you know" in it somewhere. Makes me nuts.

Bugs me when people says they will "reach out" to someone instead of saying call/email/talk to them. You must have really long arms! Just sayin' So I have to say the method I'm using to contact them? Seems annoying to have to be that detailed. Why should you care how I get in touch as long as I do and the situation is resolved? What if I use several methods? Should I report back with the update?

"I. Just. Can't." I hate that expression. I also hate "at the end of the day."
Luckily I don't hear this one much anymore, but if anyone ever says "cool beans" to me, I'm likely to stab them!

I was just told to get some boots on the ground and circle back with the client once we have our ducks in a row! Revert. Is another word that I am coming to hate. I hear it nearly 10 times a day. The person who says it so much is trying to not say "circle back" so much!

Yup. And it's annoying for the person working who has to try to upsell to you. They know you don't want it. They know you don't wanna hear it. They have to ask anyway or risk losing their job. I do not mind when people try to upsell me when eating out. I do get bothered by those poor check out clerks at Kohls that push, push, push their credit card. I find it embarrassing and I even get all red. When I say that I do not want to apply and they continue to tell me why I should, I feel so icky. I wonder if they think I have bad credit or something and am afraid of applying. No....I really just do not want a Kohls card. They don't wonder about your credit. It's another case of HAVING to up sell. My mother used to work for a department store a few years ago, and cashiers were mandated that they had to have 10 credit card sign ups a week, or they could be fired after a certain number of weeks that failed to meet the goal. It's an insane business tactic.

"Super"
"Brilliant"
"Fantastic"
As a way of staying awake and involved in a conference a few years ago, I made a "BINGO" card game that had many of the business phrases that have been mentioned. I gave these cards (all difference, like bingo cards should be), to members of my team. It was amazing that this actually helped them concentrate on the topic of the speaker, as they were trying to "win" at Bingo. We would meet at break time to see who was winning. My team listened so well that they gave very good questions to the speaker as they were listening with full attention.
I also had asked them to write down words or phrases that were "business speak", so that we could review them at our next meeting. My team enjoyed this team exercise.

Not my circus, not my monkeys It's a sort of new novelty phrase in my neck of the woods. I just bought a friend a sign as a gift at a craft show this weekend with this phrase on it!

Call off sick - No, you are calling IN sick not calling off. Standing on line - No, you are not standing on a line, you are standing IN a line. Online is the internet.

Two that have really bugged me lately are game-changer and hack. Every stupid tip and trick is now called a hack. Even Martha Stewart's people use it in her social media. Usually someone will respond and say it's "genius. " That bugs me, too, so I guess that's three things that annoy me of late! Game changer is so overused in the business world and by news outlets. Just stop! Martha Stewart That phrase is so overdone.

"I literally....." Literally? I hear it practically daily from this one particular person. She will say "I literally died when I had to call that customer back". Another thing she often says, that drives me batty, is "SUPPOSEBLY". Example: "That customer is supposebly sending in her payment next week". I want to yell out...."supposedly!!!!! not supposebleeee" And you don't laugh in her face when she says that? You have far more restraint than I do!

Mine is: It's neither here nor there. If you are not physically looking for something, what the heck is that supposed to even mean? I think "It's neither here nor there" means it's not relevant to the situation or the discussion.
ETA: Just looked up the origin: Is your coworker old? Has she been saying it since the 16th century? Thanks for filling me in on the origin. The guy is not old, just opinionated sometimes. Maybe he's reincarnated from the 16th century.

"Like" Usually said by teenagers. I was listening to the news the other day and they were interviewing some local college students and every one of them did the "like" example. "Like we were all sitting in class and like the sirens came on and like the teacher said every leave, and like we all went outside and like we were so scared" DH calls this the "Like Disease" We call our kids out about it when they start talking that way. It's easy to catch. I've been volunteering at school for the last few days and I caught myself saying it to a teacher. It was three times that I was aware of. I was embarrassed and apologized.

"I. Just. Can't." I hate that expression. I also hate "at the end of the day." Luckily I don't hear this one much anymore, but if anyone ever says "cool beans" to me, I'm likely to stab them! I work with someone where everything is "cool beans." Drives me batty. To make it worse, some other folks have picked up on it and are using the phrase, too. There is no possibly positive connotation to cool beans, IMO. Another trend around here is to say "on yesterday" or "on tomorrow" instead of just "yesterday" or "tomorrow." This one has spread as well - it started with one person and now there are three or four using these phrases.
