At night, yes. During the day it’s always unlocked.

No. I'm in a older home and the door is a hollow core one. If they can get into the garage, then that door is too easy to kick in.

We do not, but we do set the monitored Security Alarm every time we leave the house, and at night. If the door is opened, the alarm is triggered.
The one exception to the locking of the door may be if DH travels, then I lock it down.

I chose other. When we had a door between the garage and house, it was almost always locked unless one or more of us were outside in the yard/neighborhood, etc.

Our garage does not have a door that leads outside except the main garage door.

We never lock the door between garage and house, heck half the time we don't even lock our front door. I am forever opening the garage door to throw recycling into the bins we have out there it would annoy me if it was locked. I frequently open the house door to the garage to throw things into the trash and recycling bins. The nice thing about our keypad lock is that the keypad side is in the garage, the door locks automatically when closed, but you can open from the house side by just turning the knob. So no inconvenience at all, no key needed, you can set multiple codes for unlocking, and the house is at least somewhat more secure.

I’m so sorry about your Grandmother. My BFF’s father was murdered similarly. The kid that mowed his lawn knew he never locked any of his doors that’s why he and a partner chose to murder and rob him. Were they caught and convicted? They never made an arrest in my grandmother’s murder, but it was thought that the gardner’s son killed her. He had left the country by the time the police went looking for him. This was well before dna was around, and I don’t know whether or not they ever collected anything of evidentiary value at the scene. A few years ago, my younger sister mentioned that my older sister was pushing the police to have the case reopened again. I have no idea whether or not they have done so. Yes, They were 17 and 15 YO boys. They beat him to death in his sleep with a crescent wrench. The 15 yo went to a party bragging about it. They took a friend of theirs out riding in her father’s car they stole. That friend is the one who turned them in. The 17 yo took a plea bargain and the 15 yo got life w/o parole which is now being re-examined because of a change in MI law. They are both in prison currently.

I’m glad they were caught and convicted. I also think that a 15-year-old boy is really too young, with a brain and thought process that is not yet fully formed to make appropriate choices. But, a 15-year-old who, is capable of bashing a sleeping man until he is dead deserves life without parole because I highly doubt that boy will be changed significantly enough to no longer be a danger to society. I hope the 17-year-old boy also got a lengthy sentence. He may not have committed the actual murder, but he was there and could have stopped it. Or told police like the third boy did. I am so sorry for your friend.
